OXO On Barista Brain 9 Cup Coffee Maker (8710100)

    • I merely want a new filter basket to be sent since I imagine it is just a defective spring
    • Mine had a weak spring and leaked every time I pulled the pot out or dumped the
    • Seems like the spring is too weak to do the job.
    • The spring is not strong enough on the shutoff valve and does not seal shut when the carafe is removed after it finishes making a pot
    • But honestly, I am now not going to recommend this to folks, between the cover holding water, that is also a bacteria or mold grower, the basket's poor design, the spring stays up and it leaks, and now this ..
    • but it would contain the same weak spring in the shutoff valve assembly.
    • I don't know if it a defective spring or the plug itself
    • Seems like the spring is too weak to do the job.
    • The spring that is supposed to close the valve is too weak and the shaft of the valve does not move smoothly so it often does not fully close and block the drip.
    • There seems to be a weak spring in the stopper and it doesn't function as it should
    • Basically, because they haven't bothered to control the manufacturing tolerances enough to ensure the pot is centered on the plunger-opener within, say, 3mm or so, and they haven't ensured smooth, low-friction movement of the plunger, they have to use a too-wimpy spring just to avoid a situation where the stopper doesn't open and the brew basket overflows
    • ; it almost seems like the spring is rusty or something
    • This valve should stop the flow of coffee when the pot is removed from the base, but due to poor design and a weak spring, it rarely closes and coffee runs out of the cone and onto the base.
    • We called Oxo and they sent us a replacement basket, but it had exactly the same issue -- again, its a design flaw (probably too weak a spring) -- so it is not surprising that it failed.(2
    • Now after only a few weeks of using it, one of the pieces is broken (the bottom of the insert where the coffee grounds go, that has a spring so that when you take out the carafe it doesn't leak) and the coffee is leaking
    • But when you examine that mechanism you see a whole set of problems: The spring is too weak; the plastic shaft on the plunger and hole it moves through have too much friction; the pot doesn't sit squarely-enough under the center of the hallf-ball plunger-opener
    • However, as others have said, the basket does leak if you don’t keep the spring clean and working properly
    • Second, the spring which closes the coffee release button on the bottom of the grounds basket isn't strong enough to fully close when the carafe is removed from the brewer.
    • ; it almost seems like the spring is rusty or something
    • Very weak spring and too much friction keep the plunger from returning to a closed position when pot is removed.
    • The coffee carafe itself keeps the brewed coffee warm for quite a bit if you want to take it off the machine and bring it to a table or desk (if you work from home, as I
