These filters work well and keep my pets water fresh, as I have a long haired cat and a long haired dog, along with some short haired cats.

These pre-filters do a great job in keeping larger materials such as cat hair (yes, even the best brushed cat will deposit hair in the fountain) or pieces of dry food caught in their teeth from getting to the secondary filter and clogging it up.

We have the Lotus Fountain... the cat like it and uses it, plus it makes a nice relaxing "white noise" in the background for the humans in the house.

It catches a lot of cat hair that would normally clog up other parts of the fountain (ugh, I know, but what can you do? - cats, you gotta love 'em).
