The reception is very stable while the unit sits in the cup holder between the front seats

It got horrible reception

I also purchased the antenna headphones, which seems to work well for portable reception

Outside reception is good only if the device is pointing south towards the satellite

Since there is little metal above it, the reception is usually pretty good there

External antenna needs to be outside the home for good reception, but its cable is long enough for that ( cradle has power, line out and antenna connector).
