A part of the motivation for buying this was the flaky WiFi driver on Linux with absurd amount of packet loss; the other, and probably the main purpose, was to be able to set up a bridged network with the tun/tap interface, which is only possible with Ethernet

Wifi is too unreliable to be the only form of access to the net, and this little device solves that problem nicely.
