This inverter was inside the car the whole time and never got hot even with the windows up and the A/C off, it has 2 small fans which kept everything under control, and just for reference the car just used about 1/4 of the tank of gas which is about $12.00 of premiun gas and we had power, frozen food, cooked food, enterteiment, and comunication for a week, I would recommend this Power Inveter to anyone !!!

Great inverter, however the cables that come with it are way undersized
Then there is the fact that the cables are too light to carry the required current to achieve 1500w from the battery, to replace the cable with 1/0 and proper
I ran a toaster, measured a draw of 1400W, and after 30 seconds the cables were too hot to touch
The included cables became really hot in just a few minutes time
The cables got so hot after a while that you couldn't touch them any longer

I took a chance on this unit based on price and review, I was in the market for a much more expensive name brand unit.
This tells me the fan is simply connected to a thermal sensor and comes on when the unit is warm, like if the inside vehicle temperature gets warm enough to kick it in, even though the unit is turned off.
The unit will alarm when I turn on the Keurig, and often times it will shutdown.
