Nevertheless, I feel the UV-82HP is a good radio and a great value.

The price is great and they are easy to set up and use.

Everyone has been extremely impressed with its performance compared to the more expensive radios as far as range, clarity and ease of use

It has dual talk buttons (though you can disable that feature with software if you just want one)

Trade off in operation compared to uv5r, easier to lock down certain features on this radio but changing between frequency and channel mode more cumbersome plus inserting and removing battery more cumbersome

If you are not a HAM and have worked with similar units and your like me you are probably going need to spend a cozy evening reading the operations manual to tutor yourself on all the stuff this unit is capable of.

Works awesome like the idea of the fm radio and flashlight it case of bad weather or power outage

Able to monitor local channels and participate in the emergency weather notifications 2M band is awesome

Have used them on Ham bands as well as to monitor fire and police and they work great

Conclusion: Good budget transceiver, but keep in mind that quality may suffer a bit.

Programming manually is a bit tricky at first, but instruction book really helps.

Get a programming cable with the FTDI drivers, they cost a bit more but work with built-in drivers on Windows

The issues with the UV-5 were not corrected in this variant, but it is cheap enough and is an effective rig in amateur service once you are familiar with most aspects and issues common to the Chinese radios

They blamed the issue on low mic gain

I've been a Ham radio operator for 20 years now, so I have to overlook some issues, such as receiver sensitivity, but every model I've owned has held a charge extremely well

One screws fell apart on me while I was installing the clip and is now completely stripped

The issue is that these are very cheap screws and fall apart with a single use and some times less
