This is a beautiful well built tablet that's running Android 7.1 with December 2017 security patches and no plans to be patched beyond this.

Lets start with the good stuff first: The size is good for viewing, viewing angles are pretty good, and it has a PPI of 283 pixels per inch, which is pretty good

Worth mentioning the unit ships with Android N 7.1.1, but there is an immediate update for that version available in Settings.

I used it for a few weeks, and everything was great, and then I updated the Android version when prompted

Functionally, this tablet works as expected.

I purchased the dock as there was no wireless charging available.

It uses a micro USB port for charging, which is really slow compared to charging a phone with fast charge which is what I'm used to

It does what it's supposed to do - surf the web, play movies and music, and handle basic stuff like email and simple games.

However, if you want a good personal tablet where you have better colors in your videos and enough horsepower to play games, not to mention something that won't need to be upgraded next year, I recommend spending $150 or so more to buy a tablet in the next up price category where tablets have better performance and better screens.

I know IPS screens cannot hope to compete with something like an AMOLED for color saturation and variety, but even compared to something like an iPad from a few years ago, which also has an IPS display, this thing can't even produce half of the colors the iPad can

Decent screen, and the specs on the RAM and processor are enough for the average user

On occasion while using any app the screen flashes with very bright streaks and also at times the screen goes completely dark for one or two seconds

I would recommend this or the tab 4 10 to anyone looking for a new tablet, I prefer the smaller Tab 4 8 for games and its easier to carry around.

Like the Tab 2, the Tab 4 seems to be getting savaged in the Amazon reviews, but it's hard to see why

but the glass is very prone to breakage; needs a stronger glass to protect the device.

I immediately reset the device, and now I fear that I will have to continuously dismiss, or deal with a permanent notification to update the system

No bloat, solid devices, just a few years old.

I mostly use this for web browsing, streaming videos, and controlling smart home devices with the corresponding apps
