Reviews around feature (5.00 of 5)

  • Either way, this is an amazing feature when in manual mode.
  • The feature i'm missing is the eye auto focus with the zeiss on A7RII which can easily manageable with the flexible focus but is missing in a moving subject
  • Other good features is the very clean design aesthetic (unlike the messy Canon and Nikon lenses), the solid build quality (mix of metal and high quality polycarbonate plastic in the exterior and supposedly inside as well), the same 82mm filter thread like the 16-35 GM, the focus lock button that can be reprogrammed for a certain number of other functions (not as many as a regular function or programmable button though), the AF/MF toggle switch, and the zoom lock button (only at 24mm).
  • Another cool feature with the lens, speaking of MF mode, is that when focusing while in manual mode, the LCD (or viewfinder, if that's the preference), automatically zooms in, to make focusing easier.

Reviews around image (5.00 of 5)

  • advantages: Sharp image, beautiful bokeh, amazing quality.drawbacks: Heavy, expensive and fragile
  • Nice and sharp images and focus' fast with my Sony A7r iii.
  • Truth be told I get very good RAW images right out of the camera
  • Superior image quality - edge to edge, corner to corner, and across apertures and focal lengths.3.
  • If you are upgrading from zeiss 24-70 f4 lens ,then i would highly recommend g

Reviews around build (5.00 of 5)

  • Some very early first impressions: Very solid, well-built lens.
  • It's clearly a well built, silent and very easy to use lens
  • Other good features is the very clean design aesthetic (unlike the messy Canon and Nikon lenses), the solid build quality (mix of metal and high quality polycarbonate plastic in the exterior and supposedly inside as well), the same 82mm filter thread like the 16-35 GM, the focus lock button that can be reprogrammed for a certain number of other functions (not as many as a regular function or programmable button though), the AF/MF toggle switch, and the zoom lock button (only at 24mm).

Reviews around purpose (5.00 of 5)

  • It's a great general-purpose lens that gets a bit hairy around the edges when pressed into event or sports photography
  • Overall I can highly recommend the lens as a very useful and very good general purpose still photography tool
  • It's the best all purpose lens that makes use of the awesome quality of the A7RII, if only it had real manual focus...

  • There is an AF/MF toggle as well as a zoom lock on the lens body

Reviews around color (5.00 of 5)

  • It's worth the extra cost if color saturation and clarity are important to you and your photography.
  • the colors are very nice, a bit on the cool side, which I prefer, and contrast is excellent

Reviews around bokeh (4.33 of 5)

  • If you really want the absolute best pictures, use the wide open setting a lot (and I do for the beautiful bokeh and for low light shots without flash), and a manual focus that is usable vs unusable and don’t mind the extra size, then yes, it is
  • If you are tolerant of this lens issues (nervous bokeh and lack of corner-to-corner sharpness are the worst ones since they cannot be corrected unlike distortion
  • advantages: Sharp image, beautiful bokeh, amazing quality.drawbacks: Heavy, expensive and fragile
  • After all the marketing rave about bokeh of this lens I expected bokeh to be great
  • Pictures are magnificent, awesome bokeh and auto focus is all way better than the f4 lens

Reviews around shot (4.03 of 5)

  • The shots are good, but given the price and size/weight I had much higher expectations
  • Perfect for events or situations where you don't have time to switch lenses and need to get the right shots
  • I've missed a few shots due to focusing
  • and I had to take way more pictures than needed to insure that I had a enough shots
  • At 40mm to 70mm it is able to take great portraits with more blurred backgrounds, while at 24mm to 35mm it can take fine landscapes or environmental shots

Reviews around zoom (3.67 of 5)

  • There is an AF/MF toggle as well as a zoom lock on the lens body
  • The zoom works better for stills than it does for video
  • I have used it for both and recommend a very slow zoom in or zoom out
  • The zoom is super smooth, but also stiff enough to stay still.

Reviews around focus (3.49 of 5)

  • Also, because it is native, maybe, the focus freeze button can be customized from the camera's menu.
  • The focus is focus by wire but works with minimal delay/lag and the zoom ring is sufficiently damped to make zooming not too easy (it does not extend when upside down even without the zoom lock button being engaged).
  • The feature i'm missing is the eye auto focus with the zeiss on A7RII which can easily manageable with the flexible focus but is missing in a moving subject
  • Now I have some manual focus Samyang/Rokinon lens that I use when I am doing specific manual focus work/macro work, so I can deal with this for the occasional manual focus with this lens, but still this is concerning
  • quality-Accurate focus-Nice out of focus areas - haven't seen the bokeh balls yet, but I like the way the background melts away and the subject is isolated-

Reviews around sony (3.44 of 5)

  • Sony is great, and I love my A77, but they overprice EVERYTHING!!!!
  • All the better SONY glass seems to follow this pattern.
  • The Sony 24-70mm F4 is total garbage
  • I came over from Canon L-glass, and I must say, sony is ready to trample over canon and Nikon with the g-series lenses
  • Finally, have a great camera (Sony a7r ii) paired with an equally great lens
