The Zeiss (resolve up to 26MP) will outresolve the image sensor on your A7/II so your only benefit is the better color
For the lens, I tested it against my Zeiss Loxia 50 (an excellent manual focus lens for the Sony FE mount) on a Sony A7R II and the Zeiss is unsurprisingly sharper with better colors/contrast but the difference was small at best - you'd have to be a real pixel peeper like me to see a difference
It renders like a modern lens: good flare resistance with great contrast and colors.
The color, bokeh and sharpness are really good, and 50mm is my favorite focal length for both photos and videos
Though it's slightly soft wide open, it does portraits superbly
The lens formula is a modified double gauss, not perfectly corrected for spherical aberrations, so it's naturally slightly soft wide open, on the other hand the lens has very nice bokeh
Optics, this lens seems to have fairly good optics wide open, it seems more even compared to the canon, which has a fast and massive drop on the edges.
Image quality a bit soft wide open, & the motor noise was noticeable.
It's a little soft wide open at f/1.8, but we can't expect perfection for $248
Very sharp lens and light weight... a little slow on auto focus
Really sharp, light weight, fast focus, quiet and versatile.
Though feels a little light weight and cheap but was satisfied with the image results.
Super light weight but feels good and puts out some amazing work.
very sharp and light weight ,great shallow depht of field ,I would have given a 4 star if it was not for the noise it make when focusing, and it worth the $198.00 no more maybe less.
It's the type of set-up you can carry in a small bag or lightweight strap, quickly snapping photos as you go about your day without being a burdensome, while never missing a shot because the camera/lens could not keep up.
Love it but still getting used to what range I need to be at for good up close photos
It takes very clear photos, at 1.8 aperture the price cant be beat
but too many times I needed the camera to do the work for me because I didn't have time to manually focus without losing the photo I was seeking
Keeps searching, searching, click, then a blurry photo.
good lenses for this price, autofocus on a6000 works quite good (in AFC mode
Not as sharp as some pro lenses in the 55mm range but you can get some quality results.
It's so much lighter than the much more expensive ~50mm prime lenses for Sony
I was sold with several reviews recommending 50mm prime lenses, although the picture quality is fantastic, I still don’t find much reasons to spend on this one, I find the 25-55mm lense included in the A6000 bundle is very handy
Good quality lense for the price, perfect for portraits!!
AF is slow, and hunts quite a bit, sometimes never finding focus at all where Nikon's 50mm nails it no problem (tested side by side).
not that bad - biggest issue is that while hunting the loud AF noise can be annoying
I was satisfied with the image quality for the $$.2 stars with the current focus hunt - 3.9 stars without
Even the Zeiss 24 was soft at 1.8.Quick Tip: Update your camera body AND the lensAs soon as I put this lens on and started using it I noticed some very sporadic focus hunting going on
I mention that it's cheap?-----------------------------------------------------------------CONSIt does not have OSS and hence why it's slow on the A7 (not a problem on the A7RII)Not the quietestMotor noise could be a problem for quiet videos---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Why you should buy this
Focus is a touch slow, but it no problem for portraits and landscapes
But after I used it for a while, I would say it's a really problem, sometimes very painful and made me feel very sad to miss those opportunities
For an experienced photographer, its flaws aren't really a problem
