Radioddity did help resolve some issues, so support is good with them
Radioddity offers great support and is willing to listen to the Amateur radio community to try and help make improvements
We are still working through my questions and the Support has been exceptional.

To summarize, this is an ideal set for someone new to DMR to get their feet wet at a very reasonably price point.
Dual band analog and DMR at an affordable price

I really like the small size because I can put it in my vest or shirt pocket comfortably.

I've received good signal reports on both digital and analog
the TX and RX reports are great just as good as any other DRM out there
Been using with local DMR repeaters for a month now with now issues and good audio reports.
The only good news is that when the radios finally do get programmed they work well and have good audio reports both through repeaters and the Jumbo Spot hot spot

FM reception still isn’t very good but the uhf and vhf bands seem to be good
The reception isn’t even as good as my BaoFeng UV-82HP
Easy to use, good reception, and battery life.

Well, this one is even better with Tier II DMR and all the capabilities of the UV-5R, including using the same accessories.
If you want a good no-nonsense radio that will allow you to enjoy DMR without costing so much you're worried about using it in your day to day activities, then get this radio
No wonder its banned from the Wyoming DMR and Rocky mountain DMR projects.....
I was hoping to find a decent DMR radio after my good luck with the BF-

It has a nice wide display which shows more characters than my other radios
The display is better than all analog models of Baofeng and similar radios
(USB HID - works out of the box on Windows XP thru Windows 10 without any drivers).RD-5R Cons: The display is slightly smaller than the GD-77 by about 1 line of text.
The display and features implemented in this design are an improvement over older Baofeng radios, but the RD-5R that I purchased does not receive UHF signals from even close repeaters whether digital or analog, not even in monitor mode
Don't know how that passed QC.It does have a nice, sharp display--better than the UV-5R, but the build quality, at least in the unit I received, was substantially worse than the radios that usually go for $30 on sale.

Yes the RD-5R is compatible with all of the earlier UV-5R speaker mikes, chargers, batteries
The RD-5R does program a lot like the GD-77, including the strange requirement (that the TYT, Comm Systems, Anytone, and Motorola's don't have) to have to have each digital channel be part of a Receive Group
specifically I'd love to see the Community edition of the GD77 CPS (maintained by Roger Clark) support the RD-5R.Build/AppearanceThe RD-5R's physical
If you're not sure about digital or just want an extra radio that doesn't cost a fortune I highly recommend the RD-5R.

In the end, it appears a firmware update was necessary to get the radio working on the DMR side
If you are not technically inclined or unfamiliar with how DMR and digital radios work, or are older than dirt and still think in terms of tubes and call IRLP devices "reflectors" like most Ham's, then do yourself and all of us a favor and put those technical creds you claim to have for your license to good use and read up on DMR, how it works, what Talkgroups and Code Plugs are and you will have a grand and AFFORDABLE time tinkering with and using this gem of a radio.
Programming was relatively straightforward and, while my DMR use was limited to use with a hotspot, the radio worked well

But what this radio DOES do (and does quite well in my opinion) is get you on DMR in a fun and affordable way
I was hoping this would be a good way for me to get my feet wet in DMR.
All in all I would recommend this radio as an inexpensive way to get into the DMR side of ham radio.
but I found that because I like to assign Zone select/power to the orange "Call" button and Scan/Monitor to the "Moni" button.... that leaves no way to activate the flashlight or Brodcast FM feature.
If your looking for the cheapest way to get into DMR this is it
