It goes to sleep,but I'm sure the battery would be better if I remembered to turn it off

I bought this for my son, aged 11 for two reasons: firstly he was filling up the dead battery bag at alarming speed, and secondly his latest computer game has him depressing the mouse keys at astounding speed, and the sound off the constant mouse clicks was driving me bonkers
