They definitely saved my walls, and I highly recommend buying them with the gate

The only way to close the 'gap' / secure the gate is by tension, you do this by turning the hand wheels which extends the spindle rod and pushes the rubber feet against the wall... make sure you have a sturdy wall .3

Bought it for the pressure close feature because I don't want to damage the wall

I did not install the screws because I do not want to ruin the wall, so far the gate is doing a pretty good job at keeping our baby in "prison" i.e. our living room

Be sure you get the wall protectors as they secure the fit and protect your wall

It also can easily be kicked off the wall if you trip over the bottom bar, and if you make it any tighter you'll damage your wall (more so than you did by tripping over it)
