The bottom rail is a trip hazard if on stairs.

I am concerned that the bottom horizontal piece will be a trip hazard

If you want to place it at the top of the stairs it's better to get a swing gate as the bar at the bottom is a tripping hazard.

I needed a gate to keep the dogs out of my elderly Mother’s room (they are a trip hazard) but one that was easy to open and close, sturdy and would allow the cats to go in and out

n’t have children but never would trust this with a child, especially near stairs
