My problem was that my MIDI instrument is a stubborn device (Digitech GNX3 Guitar multi-effects pedal board: documented to have MIDI problems, but works great for playing guitar) and my GNX3 was never detected by the Digitech software, but MS Windows XP saw the UM-ONE and said it was working properly

This device works perfectly in Linux Gentoo using the available kernel drivers

It worked fine with my Dell Inspiron 1501, but not at all with my Asus Eee PC 1005HA.

Have not experienced any problems connecting either of my keyboards both of which are 15+ years old (I have a portable Roland digital piano and a Technics non-portable console).
