Reviews around touch (5.00 of 5)

  • Another really nice touch because they're small and easy to lose
  • I totally dig the solid rocker-style on/off switch - a nice touch
  • The included screwdriver was a nice touch and prevented me from using a too-large one and stripping the heads.
  • A very nice touch because I was able to dive right into recovering files for a friend.
  • The required Philips head screwdriver is included; a very nice touch

Reviews around build (4.69 of 5)

  • I bought this enclosure only because it came with an in-built cooling fan
  • The product seems nice and well built , However it is listed as a Sata and IDE case, It will in fact not out of the box work with a SATA or SATA II drive
  • I found it to be well built but with one problem and one failure
  • Best of all I have had no i/o issues with the drive.
  • I won't focus on how well this unit functions or it's physical makeup, etc. as there are so many reviews already, but I will say quickly that it does have a solid build and works perfect via USB 2, and quick enough for my needs

Reviews around price (4.51 of 5)

  • The price of the hard drive when I bought it was expensive.
  • Great product at a great price and all with fast service
  • The price is a "steal"!
  • Overall this is a great item at a good price and easy to install and use.
  • Best of all I have had no i/o issues with the drive.

Reviews around work (4.34 of 5)

  • TO 3.5 inch works very good and is built very good as well.
  • For the new, version 2, can do the same too: powered by 12V directly from PC (applicable only on desktop PC).Additional info on SATA speed problem:Not all SATA hard drives work correctly in eSATA on highest speed (due to interference and long cable). You maybe required to correctly set the jumper on hard drive for proper speed
  • Item not reliable, I bought 2 and 1 is defective and the other only works some time
  • So far, the case is working great with my IDE hard drive
  • fairly sturdy works in a half-assed way as a USB enclosure

Reviews around advertise (4.14 of 5)

  • Other than that, it is a solid product that is working as advertised, and it looks good.
  • The enclosure worked as advertised, and seems to be well made
  • The new computer could "see" the old hard drive immediately on startup and it works as advertised.
  • The only qualm that I have is that the internal fan does not keep the case from getting very warm, otherwise product works as advertised.
  • In my experiment, the original box is slightly warm, while the mod one is cool (as 'cold' as you can get)

Reviews around unit (4.02 of 5)

  • This unit is worthless to me as it came with no 4 pin molex power cable to use on my PATA 133 IDE drive
  • IF the latter were fabricated out of aluminum and longer than the provided thin plastic part, then the assembled unit would be less likely to fall over
  • Sure, it could have just been a defective unit, but I don't want to take the chance.
  • The whole unit has a bad chemical smell, which is normal with new electronics, but this one was particularly offensive
  • The power supply on the replacement unit is an ugly fat unit with a curved back that has no FCC or safety marking on it at all

Reviews around usb (3.77 of 5)

  • Having both esata and usb 2.0 support is great for moving it from PC to TV when needed (though I could just map the drive and stream it to tv if I really needed to use it more)
  • I already own 4 Sabrent USB Hard Drive Enclosures with the same stock number as the one I received from Amazon.
  • Alas, the USB is limited to 2.0 and the eSATA is limited to 3G (aka SATA II)
  • fairly sturdy works in a half-assed way as a USB enclosure
  • On the surface, it would seem the only downside is the USB 2.0 and 3G SATA II limitations, and needing to scrounge up my own eSATA cable

Reviews around light (3.65 of 5)

  • The fan works well and the blue LED lights on the top and bottom inner-portion of the front vents light up very bright
  • The fan works well and the blue LED lights on the top and bottom inner-portion of the front vents light up very bright
  • The fan works well and the blue LED lights on the top and bottom inner-portion of the front vents light up very bright
  • Also the LED lights are very bright and light up a dark room.
  • After a month or so of occasional use, both lights on the housing either dim or go out when the drive is in operation

Reviews around quality (3.60 of 5)

  • Better quality than most - very good price and great value.
  • I've worked with better quality 3.5 enclosures within the price point - may want to look around for a different brand or gamble and hope you get a good unit.
  • Because installation was such a pain and the enclosure parts are of mediocre quality, I could only give this product 3 stars
  • The price wad good and the quality is exceptional in my opinion.
  • I've had mixed results with the Sabrent brand, I've purchased some of their 2.5 enclosures and had a few of those fail - quality control doesn't appear the be the greatest

Reviews around thing (3.40 of 5)

  • best thing i've bought on amazon this year ... works great
  • I've had some odd issues with the hard drive not being picked up, having to reset the enclosure, things like that
  • I won't even bother to send this thing back since I've wasted far too much time with it already
  • The other nice thing is it works with IDE drives and SATA.
  • I bought one of these enclosures and installed a Seagate SATA ST3500410SV 500G hard drive for use on my MOXI DVR model 3012 (the "black" fronted version), which requires an eSATA external drive.

Reviews around case (3.31 of 5)

  • Other than the slight Fan Modding the case works like a charm on my PC and Wii
  • With a reversed fan the case is actually cool to the touch
  • I bought this about four months ago to replace a failed external hard drive case
  • Its utilitarian design suggests a sturdy, solid, well made case
  • I chose a 3 because the Hard Drive Case instructions are basically useless

Reviews around air (2.44 of 5)

  • One shouldn't have to re-engineer the mechanical design for proper air flow to provide efficient heat dissipation and reduce dust accumulation inside the case, or modify a base to keep it from falling off the case when it's picked up, or discover the Phillips screwdriver that's included is the wrong size
  • It was drawing air from the front opening and blowing out the side
  • Fan, on both of my enclosures, blows air out from the side
  • so the filter does nothing to filter incoming cooling air
  • fantastic value and made well.i do want to complement them too much as they will jack up the price.just remember to keep the unit flat and with the fan

Reviews around power (2.25 of 5)

  • The ability to accept IDE drives is nice, but it's the rock-solid construction and robust power supply that I like most.
  • The power and fan worked when turned on, but as soon as the hard drive was connected, the power goes off!
  • This is very annoying, but at least I can put these bulky power adapters in a extension cord
  • Either the power was too strong or the fan did not cool enough.
  • I tried lightly scraping it just in case, but still has that intermittent power connection

Reviews around instruction (2.00 of 5)

  • Easy installation of the hard drive, clear instructions!
  • It falls short of five stars for poor instructions and slight misalignment of the connector for my SATA drive
  • Worthwhile instructions would have eliminated the confusion.
  • The only beef I have is that the instructions aren't clear on how to take it apart, to put the drive in
  • Well, the instructions aren't very clear but you have to pretty much take off all outer items in order to get in there and screw a hard drive in place

Reviews around disk (1.87 of 5)

  • The look is sturdy, full aluminum body, and fan keeps hard disk cooler
  • Unfortunately, the one disk for which I bought it was wiped clean
  • Aluminum case and fan keep the disk quite cool and the fan is whisper quiet
  • I had a spare 4TB hard disk laying around that I hadn't installed
  • Inserting my hard disk easy and it was detected on my laptop with out any issue

Reviews around solder (1.54 of 5)

  • And as a minor cosmetic observation, I do not care to buy new products with crude soldering iron burn marks all over the PC board.
  • While I had the enclosure apart I noticed that the solder had came loose on each enclosure between a mosfet and the eSATA connector.
  • There is one huge flaw however, the solder to the esata and power connection is HORRIBLE
  • Entrega super rápida (2 días y en Colombia)
  • After fixing a loose screw which was causing a bad grounding situation, two potentially-bad solder joints, one definitely-bad solder joint, and a badly-crimped IDE power cable the unit got far enough for me to at least start testing it

Reviews around drive (1.54 of 5)

  • This is a problem with that particular drive itself, all my other drives stayed very cool with this enclosure
  • Perhaps I will eventually have an enclosure for each hard drive.
  • Keeps hard drive nice and cool, and is super quiet! Thanks
  • The fan is a big plus since it keeps the hard drive cool

Reviews around tb (1.40 of 5)

  • but i'm just happy I didn't lose 1TB of data when the controller in my previous enclosure failed.
  • Using to backup my computer on a spare SATA 1 TB hard drive I had on hand
  • The WD Green 1TB in mine doesn't get anywhere near hot, I know, it has SMART data! For references, the chipset
  • Like many others, I initially thought my beloved 1 TB external HD had kicked the bucket, but it was the power supply in the case housing the hard drive
  • I'm certain that this enclosure is not the best quality that money can buy, but it's everything that I needed to house a 1 Tb hard drive that I use once every three months for backup.

Reviews around noise (1.33 of 5)

  • One blade of the fan broke off causing really bad noise and vibration
  • I couldnt really recommend this unless noise is not an issue for you at all(you are keeping it in the garage hah)
  • After only a couple weeks of consistent usage, the fan in mine started making a loud grinding noise when I would turn the unit on
  • The obvious downside, and this one suffers from it, is the whining noise
  • When I first plugged in the second one I bought, it was making a really loud noise

Reviews around term (1.00 of 5)

  • The sleeve bearing fan is a cheap answer to reduce costs, but has poor long term reliability
  • In case you don't know, dust and animal fur are dangerous long term and can kill a hard drive
