They are right but with inexpensive USB Audio interface devices (anything below $100) also add unpleasant white noise

I had originally planned to use my Blue Microphone Yeti with my iPad but to do you need an external powered USB source (like a hub)

i mainly used as recording my classic guitar work with my mac, as well as my iPad mini (using light - usb ), if you are using mac

this product is one of the best usb microphones i have ever use
