Product Description
Sangean's RCR-22 Clock Radio is the atomic clock radio you can set once and forget. It connects to the atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado to set the most accurate time available. Once the clock is set you can program ...
If your clock radio goes off too early or too late, what good is "beautiful sound" if you are cussing at the radio for waking you up at the wrong time?!?!?!
Great sound, excellent alarm system and great overall appearance
I can set an alarm for Monday-Friday, and the radio sounds GREAT!
This is a well-designed product of excellent quality that met all my expectations for a radio alarm clock with very good sound.
and I just haven't figured it out)... also, the alarm is a gradual sound, rather than blasting you out of bed, which is really nice
I'd rate this the biggest drawback to this radio -- especially for those relying on it to get out of bed in the morning ;o{
Once you understand how to use it, product is excellent
This product is very well designed, yet receives some bad reviews due to misunderstanding the product, contributed to by a less than stellar job on the manual
Sangean has downgraded this product by removing the ability to set the alarm for individual days without changing the model number.
but it's really the sound that makes this a great product.
When the radio comes on in the morning the light of the clock radio will slowly become brighter which is welcome when you are trying to wake up.--I like the fact that you can preset the stations--If you've turned off the lighting on the unit while you are sleeping, you can still push a button on the front of the unit if you want to see--quickly--what time it is.
nice radio, with all the features I want except it arrived with the alarm adjust button broken
I like the 7 separate preset radio buttons and the medium large snooze button
Pressing "any button other than the Standby button will silence the alarm for 5 minutes" so trying the wrong button costs a lot of time
(!) buttons and controls are placed all over the radio (even on the bottom); the most important 'power' button is tiny and badly positioned; my mother (83, Alzheimer) confuses the large 'Band' button on top with the power button for days in a row
The lack of a battery backup is a serious design flaw -- the capacitive backup is helpful only during very short power "hiccups", and longer power outages will necessitate setting up the radio from scratch
Like the Sangean radio I had this item appeared to be cheaply made and its lack of function merely confirmed my suspicions.
The radio works as it should and we have figured out most of the features
Other clock radios (Timex I think) have a cool 'sleep timer' feature that this one lacks
If you hit the snooze button, the light fades back down, then gradually brightens as it comes on again
The radio works as it should and we have figured out most of the features
Minute, indicate if it is a ONE time alarm or a repeating one and what kind of repeating (daily, weekdays only, weekends only), and what type of alarm (buzzer, FM radio, AM radio).
Both carry the revision 'version 1' but show what happened to the once really great radio clock in 2013:UM_20070410_381QJ01-A_RCR-22_GB_V describes the old version with weekday alarm settingsUM_RCR-22_ii_20130304_3A81W81000000_GB_V1 describes the new version, with weekend alarms and RDSThe company SANGEAN (Taiwan) is known for designing and marketing sophisticated shortwave and world receiverradios, often sold as O.E.M. licensed products by famous brands
The ability to pick the days you want the alarm to go off (weekdays but not weekends) is great as well as having two alarms.
I am aware that it has a super capacitor which will hold the time for up to an hour in the event of a power failure.
The power failure protection (I believe it's a large capacitor) is outstanding
Easy enough, except that the RCR-22 has a completely inadequate internal battery backup; any power failure that lasts more than 30 minutes or so will eliminate all the internal settings, including the time.
This little clock/radio has everything you would want - except a back-up battery supply in case of power failure.
However, a battery backup will hold the time for up to a year AND still be able to sound the buzzer alarm during a power failure.
If your room is bright in the morning, you won't be able to read the display if it is dimmed
So, to read the time I have to either get focused enough to read the very dim display or press any of the buttons to bring the display to full brightness, which is very bright in a dark room
This thing lights up my room at night like a neon sign, even if I turn it away from me where I can't even read it
Here's what I like:--I am very sensitive to light and like to sleep in a dark room.
You can set 2 levels of display intensity, one very bright for normal room light and one adjustably dim for a dark room
I tried it out for 3 nights, and each night it lost 1-3 hours
You could presumably set an alarm for 7:30 a.m. and the clock might lose three hours in the middle of the night, which meant the alarm actually would go off at 10:30 a.m
Problems we had were the atomic clock took 4-5 hours to set itself and, worse yet, alarm 1, once set, could not be unset.
I tried every thing the company recommended & spent hours over 2 days trying to get a signal
About six months after the purchase, the clock would randomly lose three hours.
