The Stand has a nice rubberized piece on the bottom to keep the stand from moving or scratching any surface
The only problem is it was a little hard to get the top piece lined up since when tightening to two vertical aluminum poles it kept twisting the alignment of the top piece.

The stand won't mar your headphones or your table surface
I use the stand to hold my Sony Dynamic Stereo Digital headphones that are corded, which have weight and the stand is perfect and brings out the richness of the headphones and the stand itself

Other reviewers have noted this, too, but I hasten to add that your headphones will look good on here even if they are not aluminum
In testing the stand, it holds up my heavier headphones well
