Reviews around player (5.00 of 5)

  • As other reviewers have mentioned, they do not work well with a portable CD player and would need an amp to perform properly
  • I use a phillips portable CD player connected to a total airhead amp.
  • This is actually my 3rd pair of these; the first I gave to my son because he used headphones much more than I; the second I got for my brother to help him better appreciate his Pono portable music player; the 3rd I got because I was so impressed with the combo of Pono and these that I wanted the same set-up for myself.

  • The only portable audio player I know of that can power these headphones without an amplifier is the Pono player.

Reviews around balance (4.51 of 5)

  • Just a very detailed and well balanced sound that never fatigues me as a listener.
  • i really wanted a very nice pair of headphones for checking my mixes on as well as for listening to music on without throwing off my ears
  • After working on a few mixes on just headphones, mixing in the box, I am happy to say that the spectral balance of what I was mixing on the HD 600's translates extremely well to a pair of Yamaha HS8's with a balanced sub
  • These headphones are well balanced over the frequency spectrum so that bass is not blown out of proportion or highs too bright.
  • The whole spectrum is balanced, with no specific range offending the ears

Reviews around price (4.49 of 5)

  • The AGK K701/K702 are often compared to Sennheiser's HD600/650 for good reason; they both fall into the same price range (well...used to) and sound great in their own ways.
  • I bought the Schiit Vali 2, is it does the job well at a quite reasonable price.
  • Available at a very attractive "street price," the HD-600 are a completely respectable headphone, especially when paired with a good dedicated headphone amplifier.
  • A little overpriced if full price
  • The Sennheiser HD700, now selling for a reasonable price, is a much better purchase.

Reviews around quality (4.48 of 5)

  • Sound quality is A+ and I suspect that these headphones will last for years to come.
  • Unfortunately very few recordings, especially mainstream commercial ones, have really good sound quality.
  • Everything about the sound is quality and each level does not overwhelm the other.
  • Honestly out of the box the sound quality was great, definitely some of the best I've heard from a number of headphones and at the price range knocking out with ease even other more expensive ones
  • These are headphones that revolutionize all the music YOU ALREADY OWN!But be warned: remember how when CDs first came out there were all those pretentious warnings about how the superior quality of the recording may expose flaws in the master that you could never make out before

Reviews around amplifier (4.43 of 5)

  • With a decent headphone amplifier, the HD600 is preferred by many over other headphones in higher price categories
  • But, if you want to have a taste of what the audiophiles listen to with their $20,000 on up home rigs - this is one of the ways to get close - but you need a reasonable amplifier that is designed for high impedance headphones, and a good music source
  • Most portable audio players WILL require an amplifier to get the best performance out of these headphones (I recommend the PA2V2 portable amplifier from Electric Avenues).
  • I reccomend the Asus Xonar and a pretty expensive headphone amplifier
  • I ordered a FilO E11 Portable Headphone Amplifier and just with that little amp, these headphones sound great

Reviews around music (4.43 of 5)

  • , rather it is "representation of what I think the music should sound like
  • I listen to very loud music and have several noise complaints against
  • For both genres, I consider myself enjoying my music more
  • Makes all your music sound like how they were meant to be heard in there purest form
  • This didn't really change their rather shrill character which was unlistenable by my tastes on modern digitally-recorded or cheaply recorded pop music

Reviews around detail (4.40 of 5)

  • I can only assume some flaw in my previous headphones covered these details up without being noticeable
  • These headphones sounded very good with linear sound and excellent detail.
  • These headsets will show you how much detail you can actually hear from your music, but not quite enough to make you feel 100% satisfied
  • The audio quality is superb, with good detail and extremely flat response.
  • The detail was not much better than other headphone that cost around 60-100 dollars

Reviews around soundstage (4.40 of 5)

  • These being an open-back headphones gives them a great soundstage and the imaging and instrument separation is also very nice
  • Clarity, soundstage, treble, mids., and bass were all impressive
  • At this point:ASUS Essence STX + K702 = large soundstage, high clarity, low bass presence, great treble and
  • The HD600s are obviously open backed, so the soundstage isn't bad
  • The soundstage is better than any of the IEMs I have tried

Reviews around amp (4.18 of 5)

  • Sound quality (3/3 stars):I'm running these off of a cheap $150 desktop headphone amp
  • When paired with a good headphone amp, they will get you most of the way along the path to sonic perfection
  • These headphones when paired with a good amp are transcendent
  • As many have written about the HD600, you may need a good headphone amp to enjoy these.
  • Also, it's probably obvious if you're looking to spend this much on headphones, but a good headphone amp REALLY brings these alive

Reviews around pair (4.09 of 5)

  • I have a few pair of really nice headphones (multi-hundred dollar) and these are one of my favorite pairs
  • i really wanted a very nice pair of headphones for checking my mixes on as well as for listening to music on without throwing off my ears
  • Additionally, I have a crappy pair or Bose bluetooth headphones and in-ears, Shure SE215s, and RHA t20i's (the RHAs slightly besting the Shures) but I mention this solely so whomever reads this can see where I'm coming from listening-wise
  • I also have a pair of HD 558s and these 600s blow them out of the water in clarity
  • Well this is the first real pair of headphones I've owned

Reviews around set (3.76 of 5)

  • This set sounds really good, don't get me wrong, but they just don't do it for me
  • A good set of cans will deafen you if you abuse them (:
  • The first sign for me of a good set of cans is when I keep taking them off to check if my main speakers are playing
  • More time and money spent on top of an already pricey set of headphones is something to consider (and it may not even end up being comfortable enough for you), but it's been a must for me to even use these
  • Otherwise there are other good headphones out there that don't NEED expensive sets to sound close to their full potential and costs less like the grado

Reviews around bottlehead crack (3.61 of 5)

  • I've listened to the HD600s on a Beyerdynamic A1 amp, a Bottlehead Crack (without the Speedball upgrade), and my Woo Audio WA3.
  • Only thing remotely holding these beautiful headphones back is the high impedance, but pair them with a amp to power through it (I'm using the Bottlehead Crack) and a cheap DAC to remove the noise floor (FiiO D3 for its optical cable
  • i really wanted a very nice pair of headphones for checking my mixes on as well as for listening to music on without throwing off my ears
  • I have around 7 pair of professional/audiophile headphones and these are as good as it get's in my opinion

Reviews around output impedance (3.44 of 5)

  • Whatever response curve Sennheiser had in mind ("Ve shall haf 14% less zeebilance"), high output impedance can result in something very different
  • i really wanted a very nice pair of headphones for checking my mixes on as well as for listening to music on without throwing off my ears
  • There's another benefit to low output impedance: better bass control
  • These headphones handle it all as well as you can imagine, and will expose items in your favorite songs you had never heard before.
  • In short: These are as good as it gets -IF- if your reason for wanting headphones doesn't include recording

Reviews around bass (3.37 of 5)

  • This pair has excellent bass down to 22hz (lost it there) -3db under 70hz
  • It doesn't have the strongest low bass, but it's certainly adequate.
  • Bass, mids, and highs all sound good with none over powering the other
  • Clarity, soundstage, treble, mids., and bass were all impressive
  • That manifests as a muddy, definition-smothering bass hump

Reviews around coloration (3.09 of 5)

  • The 2 speakers about the head effect is a result of excessive driver coloration and compressed sound
  • I have around 7 pair of professional/audiophile headphones and these are as good as it get's in my opinion
  • Be aware that you should NOT use these if there are other people around you, they will hear what you hear minus some bass.(The coloration is tacky, but that's a minor complaint)The work wonderfully with the O2/ODAC or Vali/Magni/Modi combos.
  • In short: These are as good as it gets -IF- if your reason for wanting headphones doesn't include recording
  • I use these in my home studio for late-night composing and mixing, as well as for pure enjoyment.

Reviews around people (1.76 of 5)

  • Now people pair these headphones - which were designed when people spent the thousands on the other stuff - and wonder why they don't "deliver" that mystical sound that they see people discuss.
  • The best way to prevent this distortion (assuming you want to; some people actually like it) is with electrical damping, the ability of the amp to electrically resist unwanted movement (much like it's hard to spin a motor if you've shorted the power terminals)
  • I have installed a number of 4-figure 7.1 systems, designed and installed my own room correction, and annoyed the Magnolia people at Best Buy by spending way too long running my own demo material through 5-figure Martin Logan electrostats
  • I'm a beginner to the whole audiophile scene, so not knowing much, I asked around and people wouldn't stop recommending these and I must say they do sound flippin' amazing
  • People are misinformed believing a headphone amp provides anything more than volume

Reviews around problem (1.69 of 5)

  • The biggest problem may be listening to them to loud and hurt your ears.
  • The only real problem with the HD 600's is that if there are any imperfections in your music, such as problems with sound mastering or just being an MP3 you converted from YouTube, you will hear every imperfection
  • But the durability is a terrible problem!
  • If you're going with a stationary home DAC, then make sure that it has balanced outputs, and get a true balanced amplifier (Headamp GS-X is a good model, as is the Heardoom Max Balanced, or perhaps a cheaper but still excellent SFT-build balanced M^3)

Reviews around wire (1.69 of 5)

  • Let's evaluate the stock HD600 cable, a 9-foot pair of skinny 30ish-gauge wires Sennheiser hasn't touched in twenty years
  • i prefer the one larger wire on one side.
  • Occasionally the wires get loose, and one side will lose its input, but one can pull the wire out and reinsert it to fix that.
  • happier.the only downside in my opinion is the wires on both sides
  • The pads are replaceable all the wires are replaceable

Reviews around press (1.44 of 5)

  • Purchased these when they were a "deal of the day" to compare against the Sennheiser HD280 Pro and was hard pressed to find enough differences to merit the substantial price difference.
  • you will be hard pressed to find something that can bring out this level of clarity in music
  • but you will be hard-pressed to do better without dropping a lot more coin.
  • The 424s have a soft pad covering which presses against the outer ear
  • These changed my perspective on listening to music for the better and you'd be hard pressed to go wrong with buying a pair of HD 600's.
