The story is engaging and it's easy to get sucked in for hours

People that played Persona 3,4,5 would likely appreciate this game although it does lack complexity in the battle system, it does have a open world where you can interact and explore Japan and get a rich story

While people often talk about how modern open world games have surpassed what Shenmue is, I have yet to play any game that has immersed me in it's world through the insane level of detail and depth of interaction Shenmue offers

Unlike modern open world games which focus on land mass and inconsequential fetch quests, Shenmue invites you to interact with your environment and the fleshed out characters who occupy it

I like to believe that shenmue have paved the way for free world role playing games.

Shenmue came out in 1999 at a time before modern open world games had been defined

Playing the first Shenmue again after not playing the series since 2008 is bringing back great memories of my parents and the overall feeling of life back in my early years when things were happier and I was less cynical.

The Shenmue series is one of my all time favorite gaming experiences.

The mechanics of this game, as another user mentioned, are a little clunky for modern day gaming; with the camera difficulties being the main drawback.

but like others I enjoy its charm

I almost wonder why this was a physical release at all, I would have been cool with having these games digitally (essentially I do, the disc is the key that unlocks their use), but the poster and the box art makes this purchase worthwhile

On a side note though, the poster that came with the game is nice!

It is NOT enhanced or remastered....same graphics and all

This update gives you great graphics and speed, all on one disc.

Some new features such as save anytime and mondern control options is a nice touch.

I am so happy I get to experience it again with a few modern touches provided

This is a great time now with features unavailable to north american gamers in the past such as widescreen video output and importing savw data from shenmue 1 to shenmue 2

On a side note,have fun losing numerous times at the opening arm wrestle match in the beginning of Shenmue 2 as the game doesn't properly explain the controls

Unfortunately the Dreamcast version of Shenmue 1 stopped working for me and as far as Shenmue 2 was concern, I've played it enough times on the original Xbox to the point where I decided to try out other games, so I hadn't played it for a long time

No, the games are slower paced than many are used to, but the atmosphere and the execution of a living, breathing world has yet to be matched, even all these years later.

’s either in a highly controlled quick time event or in a more methodical, slower-paced encounter descended from Virtua Fighter rather than the bare-knuckle brawling of something like Yakuza

but it may not be for everybody, because the pacing is a slow Burn, but what you have to understand is it's a stroy driven Focus game, the people in this world are alive and you can talk to them and some of them will help you out, the game has a lot of details so you can check drawers, go to stores and buy stuff, it's not GTA

The pacing is slow, but I find it as a comforting zen-like experience
