The speaker makes hideous popping and screeching noises if it is turned on while the charging cable it plugged in.

It could just flash red but it makes a very loud disruptive noise

Oh .. the only con is there is an intermittent loud noise that sounds like the banging of a pot or pan to indicate you need to recharge
