    Shure SM57-LC Cardioid Dynamic Microphone

    • I'd guess that in 75% of all contemporary recordings there's a 57 pointed at the snare drum head, because they handle peak transients so well
    • (beware of even cheaper "rip offs" that look identical, but have far inferior capsules - always buy from an authorized Shure dealer)They work especially well in the studio for snare drum and guitar cabinets, but they can be "heros" on all percussion instruments, brass and woodwind instruments.
    • Great at taming these harsher drum sounds.
    • Also good for snares, toms, even kick drums.
    • microphones (ever made?) for snare drum and electric guitar cab mic'ing... also, tough as nails (actually, tougher than nails)! While not "the best" at every other task, these mics are also good on toms, vocals, and lots more
    • Don't be afraid to put this mic in front of very loud sound sources, like amps or snare drums.
