This is not much different than the speeds I am seeing copying files to an external USB 2.0 Western Digital hard drive.

I'd say it's speed is comparable to that of a USB attached external hard drive.

There's zero lag time between plug in and use, and the USB 3.0 R/W speeds are incredible

This has horrible write speeds for a 3.0, averaging around 7-10 mb/s

The 4k random writes are scary bad on both drives - I got less than 1MB/sec.

I was originally getting even worse writes at 12MB/sec writes but that improved 50% after reformatting with a 64k block size (NTFS)
