Summary: fun device, though I wish I could use it to play along to some of my favorite songs
It makes practicing a song much easier, while improving my rhythm
It is really easy to find midi tracks of popular songs, single out the drum track, and load on this unit
After unboxing I visited the Beat Buddy discussion forums on the vendors website and found a discussion thread listing dozens of popular songs matched to pre-programmed patterns
The songs and constantly increasing library of songs, genres and new material is amazing too
well built.- Lots of inputs/output options.- Simple to use.- Great sound quality.- Fun for inspiration while playing guitar.- The ability to use your foot to trigger a drum beat rather than having to use a
The sound quality of the drums is very good and the concept and use is good after you spend some time learning how to use it
The sound quality of the drums are the best of any drum machine I've owned.
the Beatbuddy sound quality trumps any of the units I own.
The sound quality from the pedal is good... as though each song (pattern) was a recording and not a bunch of samples cobbled together to make a complete pattern
Having control of transitions, fills, cymbal crashes, chorus, etc. is really an incredible tool when writing your own songs and especially playing live
Nonetheless it is easy to use and set up, provides with awesome sound quality, is super convenient even allowing you to plug your guitar through (useful to add an extra input in the PA if you're playing an acoustic guitar) and is quite possibly the most powerful practice tool you could ever have at your disposal
I have the little brother to this guy and they are a pretty great drummer tool but dont expect it last forever
A great tool for practicing, Still in its infancy it outshines any other drum machine, And is software upgradable so you can download more beats and features in the future.
This thing exceeded my expectations sound quality was better than I thought and firmware updates have added extensive midi control functionality that has made this an valuable tool when writing as well.
This is a great idea, and is very cool for a practice piece of gear, or to get some song ideas together.
Great idea and great execution, but still not quite there yet.
Definitely an awesome idea, but still needs some work on implementation.
Good idea but too hard to switch between song segments while playing.
Be prepared to be a nerd and create your own patterns, and download your own kits.. but at that point, the whole idea of "drums for guitarists being easy" is out of the window

Jam session with my guitar player friend is so easy now, if no drummer is available
it makes the beatbuddy "drummer" sound like an awesome pro drummer on a pro kit in a pro studio with quality mics vs the beat buddy by itself as the usual average drummer in someones home studio with cheapo mics.difference is that drastic!
It really is so much more gratifying playing my guitar and bass, knowing that I'll have an amazing sounding drummer that is always on time to practice with
Best drummer ever, and is much better than any drum machine I have ever owned in the past because it is truly designed for guitarists.
That being said, you can pretty much use it as is right out of the box to practice with virtually any song you can think of (well, except bands with talented drummers or weird time signatures like Tool, Dream Theater, Rush, etc), but putting your own beats on this thing is very very tedious.
After a bit of troubleshooting, I confirmed that the BeatBuddy is the problem

If you need to practice, or use the unit as an upbeat metronome, the BeatBuddy is amazing.
The visual interface is really genius and is a large part of why the BeatBuddy is so easy to use.
If I played out every weekend and had hours and hours to wrestle with the damn thing, I might be better
Some people are even hacking the thing, lol

For anyone stuck in a rut on their guitar learning or piano learning (or drum learning for that matter!), this thing is simply amazing and I can't recommend it enough.
Perhaps the even better thing though is the customer service
