Thing is, it only works if the phone has bluetooth turned on and is connected to the watch (proximity is a factor).

I was hoping that this new "hybrid smartwatch" would be better and not have the things that annoy about the Withings, but sadly, it does not.
This is a gorgeous, brilliantly disguised smartwatch with a leather band that my wife prefers in terms of comfort far more than the Skagen Signature Steel-Mesh banded watch that she now wears only on dressy occasions

For casual use and wear, it is a nice-looking watch with some benefits.
I would have liked a backlit face for night, or actual light up notifications, and for the watch itself to be a little slimmer, but it is a good looking piece and no one would ever guess it's tracking your steps or your sleep.
I bought this watch to have a nice-looking watch for dressier outings.
If you are looking for a something to truly track your steps and sleep, you can find something better, and likely cheaper, as this is currently priced at $175.

This is consistent with most watches that interact with smart phones because of the necessary circuitry, but it is an odd statement to make that it is the slimmest.
Connect it to a desired feature on your smart phone, then at that important moment, beit at home or in a meeting, check what time it is, while unsuspecting others have no idea that you just activated that feature on your phone.
