Obviously these are meant to hold a decent amount of papers, hence the 3" box bottom, so it's not because there are too many in the folder

the slots for the box bottom cardboard stiffener piece are not cut in the center of the file - in order to achieve correct alignment you must take a sharp knife and carefully extend the slot in order to make it line up ( a real pain if you have to do this every time

Just the perfect size to keep files from bulging and smaller than a 2", so they don't slide and bend because there's too much room.
