After using this great product for a few months now, we love it more each day.
Although the speakers are okay, nothing particularly special, the software that runs the SONOS system (and you have to use theirs) is so bad as to make the product a very poor experience
you like having errors that say your system cannot be found, then I would not recommend this product.
I love the product, sounds great, easy to setup, all that.
great product, easy to use, easy to set-up, great sound, compact enough to fit anywhere.
Basically, Sonos made this speaker to be less-useful than all other speakers before it
its crazy to think that an expensive speaker like this doesn't.
The Sonos 3/ 5 are great SPEAKER systems, really, for your music, especially if you don't need, or don't have the space for, a full stereo or a bunch of larger speakers.
There are many good speakers out there (you should not pay $300 for just the experience of the "speaker") but the sonos system is AWESOME.
There are lots of less expensive, excellent portable speakers now available.
I would imagine a single Play:5 although loud and nicer bass, would still be kind of directional.
Not a muddy/sloppy bass, still keeps the music somewhat crisp
This product does have great sound quality, it's extremely loud and pretty clear, deep bass is kind of lacking.
As expected for a unit of this size the bass was a little lacking and faded out the further you got from the unit but the rest of the range was bright and clear
The bass is clear, the treble is nice and the mids are all very audible for music
In particular to this speaker, its good on space - but you will miss (probably) the lack of two speakers distributed, that produce a more stereo effect
(I have since moved it to my workshop), and put the Play:3 next to it to compare; the Sonos unit sounds at least as good across the entire audio range, and to my taste, sounding as good as
Also, you should be able to drag and drop songs into a playlist from Windows Explorer (an example of how user friendliness is also somewhat lacking from both the mobile and PC softwares
The Ugly - Another downfall is the lack of integration with Google Music - but I guess Google does not want to partner up with anyone.
The integration with pandora, songza and 15 other music services is as slick as it gets and my play 3 and 5 sound as good as I've ever hear 44k sampled mp3's get.
This fills my living room with amazing sound and doesn't bother the neighbors
The Sonos sounds good in our small apartment and easily fills the space with sound - I don't turn it up more than half way for fear of disturbing our neighbors
