All competitive CD player boomboxes presented the same problem that when headphones are plugged into the output audio jack, the main CD player speakers shut off.

When my old boom box with AM/FM radio, CD player and obsolete cassette tape player died, I wanted a replacement without the cassette tape player, since I had long since gotten rid of all my noisy (compared to a CD) and fragile audio cassettes.

Sony says could be 'bad media', but many of my disks are Sony disks, and my older players never had any issue with noise.
