Sony ICF-C707 Clock Radio with AM/FM Dual Alarm and Large Easy to Read Backlit LCD Display

    • I would probably buy a different model if I had to do it over, but many reviews of other models also said their displays were also bright.
    • The display is too bright, but you can dim it
    • The display is too bright, even at the lower setting.
    • The one downside is the very bright display.
    • Has large led display with many different options, including I believe 3 different dimming options
    • I have the weekday alarm set to wake to an FM radio station, but when the alarm goes off, the display shows the radio station number and not the alarm, which confuses me every single day
    • TOO BRIGHTThe blue display is perhaps a little bright, even on the dimmed setting, BUT it is not the blinding beacon described in some of the other reviews
    • At night the display is WAY too bright, even on the lower setting (it casts shadows across the room).
    • Sent it back, and replaced it with a Sony ICF-C414 Clock Radio with Large 1.4 LED Display, which has a large LED (not LCD) display and a louder alarm
    • The medium setting is fine for non-night use, and when the display comes on bright in the morning it is just another reminder to me that that nature sound means I do have to get up
    • The display is unreadable at night and barely readable in the daylight
    • I like the bright blue back lit display during the
    • Looks very clean, and the display is great
    • The display is very difficult to read.
    • The blue display is annoying at night if you need dark to sleep turn it off.
    • The display is bright and clear.
    • the display is hard to read.
    • Poor display.
    • My biggest complaint is the display.
    • Take the advice of your 3 star or less reviewers when they curse the display
    • The blue display is pleasant and has three brightness settings
    • really dark LCD, repetitive sound samples, too short for bedsideThe first thing you notice using this clock is the extremely bright backlit display-- the whole rectangular display is illuminated, not just the numbers/symbols.
    • -Great range for radio signals on a sub $200 tunerCons:-The display on the dimmest setting, without being off completely, is still a bit bright once your eyes adjust to the darkness.-Button layout not exactly convenient or intuitive.-Programming the alarm has a bit of a learning curve.-You can't manually adjust the time(ie. forward 5 minutes or delayed 5 minutes)Bottom
    • Each alarm is totally independent.-Battery back for time and alarm works well.-During the day, I really liked the display
    • The display is easy to read
    • The main concern about this clock is the display is too bright at night even at the minimum brightnes, so I have to switch off the display at bedtime
    • really dark LCD, repetitive sound samples, too short for bedsideThe first thing you notice using this clock is the extremely bright backlit display-- the whole rectangular display is illuminated, not just the numbers/symbols.
    • The display is bright but not easily readable
    • Display has bright, dim and an off setting
    • And the magically invisible clock display in the morning is getting on my last nerve
    • The display is difficult to read in distance (2m or more), because there's no enough contrast for the numbers and backlit
    • But that poor display is a deal breaker for me.
    • nice clear bright display and great sound quality
    • The display is EXTREMELY bright for a radio
    • Yes, the display doesn't read well from across the room
    • Another problem I have is that even on the lowest setting the time display is too bright and distracting in a dark room.
    • The display indicates room temperature as well
    • I concur with other reviewers about the blindingly bright blue display light, it assaults you in the darkness.
    • I only give 4 stars instead of five because of the display, the background is to bright compared with the numbers, even when the display can be dimmed, the relationship is maintained the background much more brighter than the numbers, my wife says she can't see it unless she is really close
    • Display is REALLY bright at night - even at low level, I thought the room was being lit by the supermoon.
    • Yes it is very bright display if left on full 3rd brightness level and yes the display information like time, date, alarm and temp should have been lighted instead of whole screen lights up like CASIO GShock watch screen, as everybody is suggesting in reviews here, but for the money and usability it is a good buy
    • However the display is hard to read and when setting up the clock you can't see what options your choosing.
    • This is a very good radio for AM and FM, but the display is too bright for bedside use, the controls are small and difficult, and the nature sounds terrible, due to poor sound quality, short tracks, and birds sounds on the ocean audio.
    • The display is too bright, even in the lowest of its two brightness settings (other than turning the backlight completely off).
    • #1 problem is the display is either too dark to read digits easily, without staring, or it's way too bright
    • The display to me is hard to read in the dark at either Illuminated settings and the brightest of the 2 is pretty serious business
    • Like that I can make the display BRIGHT, DIM or OFF completely.
    • Small, compact and streamlined with great display color
    • Other Sony clock radios I've owned have had good displays, have been very easy to use, and have had large buttons of different shapes so it's possible to find a particular button just by feel.
    • The display is another issue...
    • The display is way too bright for night.2
    • The blue display is kind of hard to read in low setting
    • It's got a nice display, and it's sort of interesting to have the temperature listed.
    • The features I cared about were dim display, battery backup, digital tuning, and ease of use
    • First, the display is quite bright, and only adjustable to one lower setting, which is still quite bright
    • The one downside is the very bright display.
    • My nightstand is a tiny bit higher than my mattress and the LED display disappears if you are not lined up or above the clock.
    • Alarm too low and the display is not sharp looking straight into it.
    • The Bad: the display is partly directional
    • The display is so bright, I was making shadow puppets on the wall in an effort to
    • The display is too bright, but you can dim it
    • I did like the blue display and the temperature display
    • Display is either too dark to read at night or so bright that it casts a blue light across the bedside table.
    • Also, I do not like the bright blue display.
    • It strips to tone down the amazingly bright display.
    • Even though the unit is much smaller than it appears to be in the pictures, the number display is quite large, making it fairly easy to read at night even without glasses.
    • If you tip the radio up or down to point it at your height when laying down, it improves the display a little
    • The display is much too bright even on its lowest setting
    • thermometerCons: Display is way too bright and the wrong color, no white noise option, hidden alarm shut-offAs noted above, the pros substantially outweigh the cons.
    • I still can't believe how bright the display is in the dark
    • It's like the designers knew the display was too bright and people would want to turn it off
    • The backlit display is too bright in a dark room, yet the display is difficult to read because of the low contrast between the numbers and the background.
    • The display is BRIGHT - even with a piece of colored plastic over it my wife complains from the other side of the bed
    • The biggest issue is the design of the LED display
    • If this clock radio came with a red LED display it would be much better
    • ordered this as a replacement alarm clock for a bedroom, the display is unreadable from more than two feet away.terrible product from sony especially for the price.
    • The backlit display is too bright in a dark room, yet the display is difficult to read because of the low contrast between the numbers and the background.
    • But the blue background makes the LED display unreadable in a lit room -- the blue just washes out the entire display.
    • Display is hard to read unless in bright mode, which the blue background is too bright.
    • I'm not sure if D. Snow got a bad unit or if Sony has improved the display, but the characters are black with a blue backlight which can be set to bright, medium or off by pressing the snooze bar
    • The Bad-The main display is a back lit LED with three settings: bright, dim and no back light
    • I turned it off, fell asleep, and when the alarm starts sounding the BRIGHT display comes on to help wake you up.
    • However, as other reviewers have already said, the display is weird.
    • Also, I do not like the bright blue display.
    • Display too bright even with at low setting
    • BUT....the back light display is so bright it might as well be a night light
    • In my opinion, this deficiency made the entire clock unusable in that the brightness required to see the display is so bright that it was a huge distraction when trying to sleep.
    • Nice L I T T L E
    • I love that it has 2 alarms (A and B) and you can set them for weekday or weekend using any of the sound options and even pick the volume (levels 1-30) for the alarm level to sound off
