Sony ICFC218 Dream Machine Clock Radio (Black)

    • My biggest beef with this thing is that the green display is just too bright.
    • This is a good all round alarm clock that is compact, easy to use and has a lovely, bright easy to read LED display
    • This refers to the fact that there's a built-in lithium battery and the clock is set at the factory, so when you plug it in for the first time the correct time displays without needing to be set by the user
    • The older Sony "dream machine" clock radio had a brighter display and was a good one, so I bought this newer one thinking it would be good also
    • Good display and easy to read
    • I love its large display and features, but the clock always ends up gradually getting faster
    • The display is a bit dim, which I ended up appreciating because it doesn't distract me at night
    • It's good enough to see the time from anywhere in the room, alarm and radio work as they should, sound quality is good for this price and for this kind of device, although i'd be much more satisfied if the display was just a little bit brighter, other than that - it's a good buy.
    • Easy to read LED display that is not too bright, very good radio performance (audio is acceptable if not great from the small speaker/case), and the auto-set feature worked quickly right out of the box.
    • Small size, and easy to use, plus the green display that I really prefer.
    • The display is bright enough to be read across the room but not so glaring to keep you awake at night, and the controls are pretty simple to use
    • but I was wrong this radio makes it much easier to tell if the alarm is set and the green display is easier for me to read
    • The only complaint I have is I really wish the display were brighter
    • The display is too bright and the clock doesn't have a way to select the brightness.
    • The display is crisp and bright without being irritating and the radio is fine for her needs.
    • The controls are simple once you understand how they work, although you do need to take the time to read the owner's manual, and the display is clear and easy to read
    • I have issues with most LED displays because they are either in red light or too small.
    • Because the unit is AC powered, it means the display can be illuminated all the time.
    • The display is clear and bright, but not so bright as to disturb your sleep.
    • I especially love the unobtrusive display
    • I love the big, easy-to-read bright green display.
    • Large display can be read across the room at night but the green color doesn't ruin my night vision the way many of the blue LED display clocks do
    • Clock functions ok but the display is too bright
    • In a darkened room the display is easy to read, but in an illuminated room it can be nearly impossible to read at distance
    • The display is not too bright at night, but is clear in daylight
    • The only thing I like about the clock is that the display is green and not bright so it does not bother me when trying to sleep
    • Nice large unobtrusive display
    • The display is just right.....not too bright but easy to read in the middle of the night
    • The display is fine.
    • The radio gets decent reception, the beeping alarm is impressive with the graduating beep, my only 'but' is that the digital display is unnecessarily bright
    • It woild be nice if it was adjustable bright and dim for night and day during the day the display is difficult to read
    • Nice display, comes with time already set, easy to set alarm, and easy to turn off alarm, no worries about resetting after power interruptions.
    • Of the other two reviewers who've rated the ICF-C218 at three stars, curiously one complains that the display is too dim and the other that it is too bright.
    • I like the LED display as it's not too bright at night.
    • I wouId have given it 5 starts if the display wasn't so bright,, and there is no feature to dim the display
    • Display is very bright but if it wasn't, everyone would complain they couldn't see it.
    • you can turn off this feature if you live in an area that doesn't change.- large LED display - easy to read even when sleepy ;)- I like the green display - doesn't throw off too much light - easy on the eyes
    • The only problem is that I also agree with those who found the display too dim to be useful in any light at all, and I disagree with those who found the display too bright, which means one thing and one thing only: the Chinese factory that turns these things out is doing a good job at everything but regulating the LED display, and some of the products of that assembly line are very bright, some are too dim to be useful, and some are in between
    • Display is very bright but if it wasn't, everyone would complain they couldn't see it.
    • This unit has a nice large display, very readable in daylight
    • Its display is perfect, not too dim not too bright and digit size if just perfect
    • Also, the green display is not very bright and the radio tuning is very finicky
    • Not user friendly and the display is too bright at night.
    • Randomly, the display will dim so much that it is unreadable, even at night
    • The display is a little bright, but I`ve seen much worse
    • I wouId have given it 5 starts if the display wasn't so bright,, and there is no feature to dim the display
    • Nice display, comes with time already set, easy to set alarm, and easy to turn off alarm, no worries about resetting after power interruptions.
    • The display is just right.....not too bright but easy to read in the middle of the night
    • Big bright display
    • The display is very bright, even adjusted, something to keep in mind in a bedroom
    • The display is clear and bright, but not so bright as to disturb your sleep.
    • Nice little radio alarm clock but desperately needs a dimmer - the display is so bright I have to turn it away from me in order to get to sleep, then, if I wake up in the middle of the night, I have reach out and fumble around to turn it toward me to see the time.
    • Just the size I needed with clear digital display.
    • Then, one morning, I hit the snooze button twice by mistake and it dimmed the display again.
    • Ease if use; highly legible and bright display
    • The only problem is that the display is noticeably too bright in a dark room.
    • Nicely designed, lightweight, just the right display brightness.
    • Can't see the LED display very well during the day
    • We like everything about it except that the display should be brighter (or have a switch to change it from low to high-even better).
    • I agree with those who say the display is too bright.
    • Nice clear display
    • Was looking just for a clock with a good size display, and this filled the bill.
    • Large display, works great
    • The display lights up the whole room.. kind of annoying.
    • I bought 3 other alarms before this one and ended up returning all because of overly bright display or bone jarring alarm sound
    • Nice alarm clock/display.
    • If you like a REALLY dim display, you might consider that model instead.
    • The display is easy to read, even from a distance, while still being easy on the eyes.
    • Leaving that aside, the reason we got them is because they are good value for money, and the display is bright,
    • Excellent fully functional easy to operate clock for an unbeatable price - Love the LED display as it's easy on the eyes both during the day and at night instead of the startling red like I used to have that glares at you.
    • The single intensity green display did not bother me at first, but after some use I found it was too bright at night.
    • Clear display both during daytime and nighttime.
    • However, the display is not adequate for me.
    • Finally, I like the display
    • Works great, just needed a new back-up battery (probably because the model is so old) but the clock arrived brand-new and even made me realize that my previous clock's display had become rather dim over the years, because this one is nice and bright!
    • My son hit the Snooze button one day and it dimmed the display to the point that during the daytime, you cannot see the time unless you're pretty close to it.
    • I didn't notice how bright the display was until we turned off the TV.
    • The LED display indicates a "snooze" condition with a blinking dot in the display which is a nice feature for me
    • I put it about 1.5-2 feet away from my head and the bright display does not bother me.
    • It lacks some functionality such as a dimmable display but its ease of operation, decent sounding radio and overall ease of operation make up for any shortcomings
    • The display isn't overwhelmingly bright
    • The display is not excessively bright, and the radio has great sound quality.
    • When Daylight Savings time begins and ends, it automatically adjust (and the LED display lets you know whether it's on standard or DST
    • Wish the number display did have a dimmable option because it is pretty bright facing you at night in the dark bedroom.
    • I've had no problems with the LED display being too bright or too dim.
    • If you like a REALLY dim display, you might consider that model instead.
    • My problem with this unit is that there is no way to control the brightness of the LED display.
    • The display seems fine to me, neither too bright, nor too dim.
    • The display was perfect for nighttime; I loved the automatic time set...and then it started to gain time, and gain time, and gain time.
    • It doesn't have a "bright/dim" option as many LED clocks provide, but the LED display is bright enough for me and more importantly, it's not too bright
    • It doesn't have a "bright/dim" option as many LED clocks provide, but the LED display is bright enough for me and more importantly, it's not too bright
    • It has many great functions and the display is easily readable
    • Most clocks have this feature, even my old Emerson had it with its bright RED display
    • The only complaint I had was a very weak green display
    • I've tried several more times and it finally worked and the display was bright again.
    • The display is not too bright, just perfect for night-time viewing.
    • Excellent fully functional easy to operate clock for an unbeatable price - Love the LED display as it's easy on the eyes both during the day and at night instead of the startling red like I used to have that glares at you.
    • Not too bright where its annoying (I like the room dark when I'm sleeping).
    • I,am glad l bought this radio, For the you can't beat it l keep it the spare bedroom
    • The front face is clean and spiffy looking, the shape elegant but simple -- it fit the décor of the crappy motel off the interstate you stopped at, desperate with exhaustion, as well as it did the five-star room you treated yourself to for a weekend getaway
    • Works as it is advertised.
    • Very confusing as to how to set everything on this clock from the clock itself to the alarm.
    • Everything worked as it should, although some of the FM stations with weaker signals don't come as clean and strong as I'd like
