Sony ICFC218 Dream Machine Clock Radio (Black)

    • The clock is great for the price and was fine for the first year or so, but now the time is fast and I can't get it reset no matter what i do!
    • This refers to the fact that there's a built-in lithium battery and the clock is set at the factory, so when you plug it in for the first time the correct time displays without needing to be set by the user
    • The price is right, and for those people who have trouble getting started in the morning, they'll gain ten minutes every time they leave the bedroom.
    • The clock keeps good time and it's easy to set.
    • As soon as power comes back on, the correct time is automatically set
    • it doesn't work all the time
    • My first alarm lasted a very long-time.
    • I've tried several more times and it finally worked and the display was bright again.
    • It just keeps the correct time when the power resumes.
    • Nearly impossible to set the correct time, this garbage posing as a clock radio loses time and just simply stinks to high heaven.
    • When this clock arrived, I disposed of the old one, plugged the new one in, and it set itself to the correct time immediately as expected
    • Product functions well as a time piece and alarm, but the radio is hard to adjust to stations, due to the delicate nature of the tuning dial.
    • Keeps perfect time and the subtle green colored display is not overly bright like the unit this one replaced.
    • This clock is factory pre-set to the correct time.
    • The telephone co. stopped it's "time" service, so we bought a Sharp portable automatic clock for the office does pick up the correct time from a radio (cell phone?) signal that matches the computer and cell phones auto set clock time
    • One of my two residences is located in AZ and I set it to an appropriate time zone.
    • Keeps perfect time.
    • but I have a hard time seeing the LCD readout when there's too much sunlight in my room
    • One of the best features is the automatic time-setting- when you take it out of the box it has the right time
    • Incorrect time is NOT what I bought a clock for.
    • I wanted a clock that was easy to use, intuituve to set up, and didn't lose time when the power goes out
    • One final warning - "automatic time set" is massively misleading
    • As soon as it's plugged in, it is set to the correct time.
    • Out of the box the clock was more than 4 minutes behind the correct time verified by my cell phone, personal computer, old atomic clock radio and cable service.
    • It just doesnt "lose" the time like my old one
    • I especially like that once you set your time zone, it will correct the time when I set it incorrectly.
    • So, don't buy if precise time is important to you.
    • The limitation is the following: when the AC power is off, the alarm does not ring, even though it has battery backup that preserves the correct time for when the power comes back on.
    • I had a hard time setting the clock, but....
    • The flip switch and acceleration makes it quick and easy, however it is quite hard to read whether you set the alarm to AM or PM, and this saddened me a couple times
    • it doesn,t work can't set time i have try removing battry and unpluge from power for two days instslled battry pluged it ih doesn't
    • It keeps good time and cheap enough for the price
    • I spent a long time researching which alarm clock radio to purchase
    • Since the previous one was bad with time, I buy this one and I am very happy with it especially with its instructions a lot clearer that the previous one especially how to set time, Daylight Saving Time and how to disable the Daylight Saving time to set time in manual mode.
    • Good, basic alarm, this is our second one, the last one lasted a good long time!
    • Even after the auto dst re-set they slowly gain back the wrong time.
    • The radio will advance or retard the clock time for DST unless DST is deactivated with the DST button.
    • My only complaint is the time is 20 minutes slow, always, and it cannot be set manually to correct the time.
    • Other features:It automatically sets itself to the right time, but in areas where a time signal is unavailable via
    • Because the unit is AC powered, it means the display can be illuminated all the time.
    • I bought this clock/radio as a backup clock in case my other clock/radio (which I've had for 10 years) dies at an inopportune time
    • If you don't care to know the correct time.
    • Love the features of auto time set for Daylight savings and easy(very) time and alarm set The alarm starts out low and increases in volume
    • The radio sounds pretty good too for a clock radio, and the large LED time is easy on the eyes.
    • On top of that it is quite cheap!I want to warn you though that the automatic time feature is only a preset time by the manufacturer and not like an atomic clock
    • It doesn't take up too much space and keeps time even if the electricity fails.
    • I ordered two more and find it very interesting that when the clock is plugged in, the time is already correct!
    • this doesn't bother me too much (taking in consideration that I only had paid around $12 for them), but still I would prefer more precise time keeping.
    • Once the battery dies, it loses correct time and you wil haved to reset.
    • extremely difficult-no, impossibe-to adjust to keep proper time
    • First, the ONE BIG PRO - I plugged it in, and the time automatically set itself - HOORAY!!!
    • It doesn't have the right time and there is no way to fix it.
    • I had a difficult time reading the instructions even to set the time
    • It keeps good time and cheap enough for the price
    • They keep great time and the auto daylight savings time feature is great
    • You're supposed to replace the battery, which makes the time keeping problem circular
    • There is no excuse for an electric clock to keep such bad time.
    • Pros:- Easy to set up - time and alarm setting are a breeze.- keeps excellent time - within a couple of minutes per year.- Automatically changes time when DST occurs
    • But, it does not automatically adjust itself to the correct time as an Atomic Clock will
    • It has not failed during many of the power outages we have and it seems to get back to the correct time each time power is restored.
    • nice clear time, alarm with the radio it loud
    • It cost about $15, it keeps great time, has an easy to set alarm, picks up a radio single in a basement apartment, and is very light and compact
    • Nice looking clock radio and was easy to set and correct to the exact right time
    • time! The wake up signal is quiet at first, then gets louder
    • The time is bright enough and easy to see at dark.
    • Then, when I went to change the clock back to the correct time, the buttons to set the clock wouldn't work
    • Since it sets itself automatically, you can not set the correct time
    • (if you miss your ideal time, you don't have to cycle all the way back through 24 hours)
    • This does everything you'd want a clock radio to do except tell accurate time
    • it's not flashing numbers it resets itself to the correct time
    • The Daylight saving time setting work and battery backup option is great.
    • It keeps perfect time, is small and my favorite feature is it does not scare me out of bed.
    • so all that you needed to do upon first power-up was to set the correct time zone.
    • Time keeps reverting back to something I never even tried to set.
    • Not exactly sure why that was the case, since, supposedly there is a battery backup for the clock to keep the right time anyways, and we never really lost power
    • Still really like it, but the time is not accurate -- a basic requirement of a timepiece
    • Each time you turn the alarm on, it provides about a 5-second display of the current alarm setting before defaulting back to the current time.
    • There is no radio link to automatically keep the time correct
    • Usually does a good job of returning to the correct time after power outages, with perhaps one exception so far
    • I ordered this one after a similar one (brand X) from WalMart couldn't keep decent time
    • I guess an alternative to this effective alarm clock would be a sledge hammer poised to drop on you at the appropriate time
    • I found about it runs 2 minutes fast and also it gives off a mildly annoying interference hum probably about 3-4 times a day, though, it only lasts a matter of seconds.
    • And I haven't had it long enough to determine how well it keeps time
    • I give such a low review cause it wouldn't keep the right time
    • If you miss the warning that the battery is weak, and lost it, well you set the time manually
    • When we got the first one, automatic time set worked, though it set the clock two minutes fast.
    • The alarm went off at the right time.
    • Contrary to what other reviewers have said, it will not sync to the correct time automatically once the installed backup battery fails
    • OK, but I figured out it will not set itself to the correct time if you are in daylight savings "season" i.e., the summer, but you live in an area where DST is not observed.
    • (if you miss your ideal time, you don't have to cycle all the way back through 24 hours)
    • the clock we received had a completely discharged battery so instead of plugging it in and having the correct time show up on the display, our showed 12:00... no big deal... replaced the battery (easy to do) and set the time (also easy to do)
    • Nice display, comes with time already set, easy to set alarm, and easy to turn off alarm, no worries about resetting after power interruptions.
    • The only problem is the time adjust rocker switch just went out
    • but it keeps accurate time and the price was right.
    • nice clear time, alarm with the radio it loud
    • If you take the battery out and unplug it, then the clock loses the time and you have to set it manually, just as someone did in the factory before it was shipped to whoever you bought it from.
    • So what I wanted was a basic alarm clock that looks attractive on my nighstand and kept excellent time.
    • It is factory preset to the correct time and has an internal 3V battery which keeps this time from factory to your home.
    • It will not stay at one time, nor does it even give the right time when trying to set it manually
    • so you dont have to keep changing batteries, and the time and alarm settings are very easy to adjust.
    • no fully EXPECTED it to automatically keep CORRECT time!It doesn't
    • It's like twenty minutes ahead now and nothing I do gets it to go back to the correct time
    • Once the battery dies, it loses correct time and you wil haved to reset.
    • NO...not when the time it sets is 17 minutes fast and there is NO WAY to change it.
    • On the other hand, if you set it to the wrong time, it will display the wrong time, automatically
    • Automatic Time Set (WORTHLESS
    • 2 different wake times is nice too
    • I revised my original review because after a year, it started to "lose" time and there was no way to adjust it
    • When it's time to spring ahead or fall back, a Daylight Savings feature adds or subtracts an hour accordingly.
    • Maintains accurate time and very easy to see
    • The first time I plugged it in, I expected to see the correct time, but it just sat there and blinked 12:00
    • the large green LED screen is easy to see at night as well as day time
    • Love the features of auto time set for Daylight savings and easy(very) time and alarm set The alarm starts out low and increases in volume
    • It does daylight saving changes automatically *if* its set to the correct time zone (read the manual)
    • I have reset them many times, and they look good for a short while and then they are back to the fast times again.
    • So far my Sony clock has been keeping time with them just fine.
    • best alarm clock I've ever owned...even reset itself when the time changed..sooooo cool..alarm set as simple as possible
    • My only complaint is the time is 20 minutes slow, always, and it cannot be set manually to correct the time.
    • Even after the auto dst re-set they slowly gain back the wrong time.
    • First of all, my "Automatic time set" didn't work
    • I like that the time is self-adjusting, that there's an internal permanent rechargeable battery backup
    • The basic design behind this feature is to minimize the number of buttons you have to press to set the correct time
    • This clock radio is a good little unit with a clear time read-out.
    • But according to its description it is automatic time set and even gives the right time even when there is a power outage for it has a battery backup
    • Well, this time I was wrong
    • If you don't need accurate time, this is the best bang for the buck you can get.
    • Simple but work perfectly what you need to see the time, easy to change to day light saving
    • I needed an alarm clock to wake me up at the right time with gentle music.
    • After 20 minutes I plugged it in again, but clock displayed the time when I unplugged it instead of the correct time.
    • What good is it if it's wrong ALL the time
    • One other time I bumped DST button and my clock went into a different time zone
    • The only weird thing is that the time is automatically set depending upon what time zone you are in, you select what time zone you are in and it programs the time (we live in the CST time zone, and for some reason or another, the clock wouldn't display the correct time unless I put it on PST, which was strange, but it works fine and keeps time very well).
    • the clock was set to the correct time and all the consumer had to do was plug it in and select their time zone... voila... the display showed the correct time
    • I have two of these, neither of them keeps the right time.
    • I am writing this about 3 years after I bought these radios, but as time went on they no longer told the correct time
    • We plugged it in and it had the correct time already.
    • Unlike the old clocks that used a 9V battery that was good for a few hours this one has a built in battery and was shipped with the correct time already programmed
    • Even corrects the time automatically for Standard Daytime Time twice a year.
    • The automatic time does not work and it was impossible to set manually
    • And the clock does not keep the correct time.
    • Instructions said the clock should automatically set to the correct time the first time I plugged it in, but instead this one just blinked 11:00am
    • Easy clock setup - automatically on correct time!
    • My power goes off several times a week and this clock never fails, unlike the other models I am replacing.
    • Nearly impossible to set the correct time, this garbage posing as a clock radio loses time and just simply stinks to high heaven.
    • It's a snap to set and has automatic adjustments fot Daylight Savings Time and Standard Time, as well as a battery back up
    • If a clock shows the correct time, sets itself, adjusts itself and is relatively easy to read
    • On the flip side, I had to make a cover for the front because the time displays way too bright.
    • But I bought this as a present to my mom hoping replace this with her larger radio that she carries around to each room and the alarm she's having a hard time setting up in her phone
    • The device works really well, but when the alarm is being set, it changes in increments of 1, then switches to increments of 10, which go by so fast that I spend forever going back and forth trying to select the right time.
    • Also there are separate buttons for setting time/date and alarm which seems really unnecessary.
    • The alarm will go on once again the next time it's supposed to without fiddling with any other buttons.
    • I can't trust this clock to be an alarm clock because I don't know if it will wake me up at the appropriate time
    • Automatically adjusts for time change, and keeps time reasonably well
    • It has always run fast...so much for keeping accurate time.
    • when she sets it it goes off on the wrong times and i tried to set
    • Music is clear and time is accurate from the start.
    • Also, as I was setting the alarm, I went too far past my desired time, so I was expecting to loop around the 60 minutes again to get back to the right time, but instead this alarm clock has both back and forward buttons for adjusting the time
    • The second time I knew it wasn't my fault because I made sure the correct time was set, that I had the correct AM/PM setting, and that the alarm switch was set in the right position for alarm.
    • Item does not work properly, will not reset the time when power is interrupted.
    • I just wish I had control to set the time 15 minutes ahead to "trick" me into
    • Like the size of digits, like the fact that it sets itself, and keeps the correct time even when the power goes off and returns
    • For example, I opened it and plugged it in expecting to see the blinking 12:00 that I would have to reset, but instead, it was already showing the right time
    • This clock comes with battery in it and automatically keeps time accurate
    • The time will always be accurate
    • The automatic time set does not work.
    • This feature combined with the battery backup assures accurate time even when there is a power outage.
    • Great for setting the alarm, the time however is difficult to change.
    • goes off at the wrong times not pleased
    • Yet with this clock radio literally 2 feet from my head I don't hear the alarm half the time.
    • It keeps great time and is easy to read.
    • I've had this clock now for two years, and it has been a problem the whole time
    • I've had this unit for a month and so far it keeps accurate time, the snooze feature works
    • and most customer reviews stated their clock radios came already set to the proper time
    • The time was correct when first purchased
    • It is far too easy to activate the switch when turning the alarm off in the dark; resulting in incorrect alarm times
    • Doesn't loose the time during power
    • Time setup automatically, easy to adjust.
    • Time is easy to read, they set themselves (time, not alarm), and they can tune in all major radio stations around me.
    • Crisp time display
    • I gave this product 2 stars because it sets the time automatically, except it's fast
    • It sets to the exact correct time.
    • And the daylight savings time featured worked last Saturday.
    • It has a battery backup provided by a CR2032 battery and the clock is preset with the correct EST time
    • When I read the words "Automatic Time Set" in the product name, I assumed--reasonably, I think--that this was one of those clocks that periodically and automatically syncs with the US atomic clock to display the right time, even after it gets off a bit
    • If it loses time it will NOT automatically set the time via an atomic clock.
    • When they lose juice a radio frequency resets the time
    • Adequate radio that I does really useI use it near the Living room tv just as a handy time reference.
    • I had a little tough time setting it for the manual was not of much help
    • The time was correct...checked it against my cell phone.
    • but she has a hard time setting it
    • Too bad it loses time
    • My only problem with this unit is that it refuses to keep the correct time.
    • Work you cant see the time on radio ,only when you plug it back in it keeps the time
    • If you're looking for a high-fidelity radio, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a reliable little alarm clock that will wake you up at the right time even if the power goes out
    • It makes little sense to me for this clock to be programmed at the factory with the incorrect time -- mine was a couple of minutes off, and had to be adjusted
    • That is not the case - this clock simply has the correct time preset at the factory
    • However, it is supposed to be able to set itself to the correct time and it does not, not even after I had set it correctly and then unplugged it to move it.
    • Keeps perfect time, the last 2 clocks would advance in time several minutes a week
    • If time and needing an alarm to wake you up is important to you and not just hit-or-miss, I would pass on this one.
    • I knocked it down a star because it has a hard time picking up a signal in a poor signal area.
    • Now it doesn't keep the correct time.
    • My elderly parents were having fits with the wrong time automatically being displayed until they remembered to tell me about
    • The alarm clock keeps accurate time, and can be set for daylight savings time
    • It does have a DST button that you can manually push to set the clock for DST (adds 1 Hr.), but it's certainly not automatic and there is no way to set the correct time zone.
    • Like I said, some might have a longer time learning all the features.
    • I was in the correct time zone, but the clock was way off and there were no instructions on how to fix it.
    • and you don't need to press a button to switch on a back light to see the (incorrect) time
    • It looks great on my nightstand and keeps excellent time, and the radio is perfect.
    • When I plugged it in it automatically started running at the correct current time.
    • My previous alarm had a battery back-up but when the power would go out, the time was all wrong when power was restored
    • Great for setting the alarm, the time however is difficult to change.
    • The display was perfect for nighttime; I loved the automatic time set...and then it started to gain time, and gain time, and gain time.
    • I really like how you can set the time or alarm backwards as well as forwards
    • The auto time set feature is almost scary...had it powered up for about 15 seconds and the time was correct
    • Thinking "hey my old Sony lasted a good long time", I bought this
    • I was away for 3 weeks and came back to a clock displaying an incorrect time.
    • It did show the correct time
    • There's no remedy as far as I can tell, I've learned to add 10 minutes to know the right time
    • well I received this product in the good time and that is a good buy
    • The correct time is already set at the factory and a battery maintains the time if the power is out
    • I particularly like the way the alarm time is set using a flipper (jog lever) conveniently on the top that advances or retreats the time quickly.
    • You can hold the buttons down to get it to zip through the times faster, or click through the minutes and hours one by one
    • Not easy to work with all the buttons ..and the time light is VERY BRIGHT ..but it keeps perfect time.
    • She wanted something she could see in the dark and it does that very well, but she has a tough time setting the alarm.
    • The clock keeps accurate time and the radio comes on at the right time.
    • or so it's losing time
    • In addition, it is not that simple to reset the correct time.
    • However, the clock runs fast and the time setting function does not work
    • the DST light won`t stay on" (written in December), "No way to change from FM to AM" (switch right on the side), "runs 17 min fast since I`ve owned
    • Not too bright where its annoying (I like the room dark when I'm sleeping).
