Let me first say that out of the box, the new 1000XM2 headphones had a little better noise cancelling than the MDR-1RNCs but the sound quality was not even close to what I was hoping for

Genuinely a step up from the previous generation and different, but as good as, Bose of comparable price

The bluetooth is almost useless... it skips every 3 or 4 seconds, which is exceedingly annoying, and the sound quality isn't as good as when you connect a cable even when it isn't skipping.

The noise reduction with Sony was nearly as good as with using hearing protection ear plugs
