Super sharp, amazing bokeh

The bokeh and depth of field (background blur) at f1.8 is beautiful and has that smooth blurriness that makes pro portraits so great.

The lens is known to give "cat's eye" (football shaped) bokeh of light sources rather than the generally preferred circular "bokeh balls," and not just at the periphery of the image.

You'd have to spend a lot more to get buttery-smooth bokeh, unless you want to get the Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f2, and that's a manual focus and heavy beast

It is a nice light weight, has great bokeh, and crispness.

The 85 GM is a better portrait lens if you need nicer rendering and bokeh, but I think this lens wins for versatility

Bokeh overall is very smooth, though if anything, it has a tendency to be just a little bit busy with a complex backdrop
