Not sure if it's worth the extra cost for the Reference II generation (new crossover), but Klipsch is correct when the boast remarkable balance of performance and value when referring to this speaker.

In brief summary, the Yamaha is typical of modern speakers in that they require a powered subwoofer especially for movies, they have a high frequency response though once you get past the weak bass.

I put on some Pearl Jam and the guitar and vocals were really clear, the bass, not overwhelming was clear and concise.

It does seem to be important to position these speakers at least 12 inches away from the wall to get the best bass.
