Great product, supplies power to the hard drive so you don't need an external power source.

It will plug into a 3.5 inch but there isn't enough power to drive the larger drive from USB.

Mechanical drives might not get enough power from the bus to spin up.

Keep in mind that if you're wanting to plug this into a 3.5" Hard Drive, you will need a different cable, as this one can't supply enough power to make 3.5" Hard Drives work.

Faster speeds means more efficient work, and my management always like better work

With my Samsung 1TB 860 EVO using this to xfer from an older 840 evo via USB 3.0 (not 3.1), I got a good transfer speed of 200+MBps.

I myself use an SSD as an external drive since I cannot go back to slower speeds (when I can, that is) of HDDs

As for transfer speed, the speed was restricted by the speed of the drives or by my old USB 2 ports, so the cable cannot be blamed

This means no SMART data and less-than-optimal transfer speeds.

Best quality so don't be cheap and buy something for less to save a few bucks

This was a simple solution to easily create a USB3 external hard drive (without the need of an additional power supply.)While there should have been files on the drive, I had to create a partition and format it to use it (so data was lost), not a big deal but beware it might happen to you!
