My 8 year old son loves this, as well as my adult friends

I would recommend Super Mario Maker to video game lovers of all ages.

I kind of think, upon completing a level, the player should actually rate the course from 0 to 5 stars or something, and if you follow a maker, that should automatically award that maker a number of stars

They've done an exceptional job of packing fun little secrets everywhere, from the title menu (go on, press all the letters of the SUPER MARIO MAKER title) to using the eraser near Mario (he shakes as if he's scared...which is fair.

However, I think this game could be even better if there were some improvements, such as: a search function for community created levels based on their titles, an ability to 'note' certain levels to play at a later time, a full set of gameplay elements (as others have noted, quite a few are missing as of September 2015), the ability to create accomplishments for one's levels based upon such things as finding all hidden blocks, getting all 1ups, getting at least a certain score etc., perhaps the ability to add story elements, perhaps 'leaderboards' for each level, showing top scores and / or top accomplishments for that level's top players...

The easy to use tools all work well, but I am not a game designer and relied on the highlightedcommunity levels

I do also want to point out that the digital download is nearly the same price as the physical game, but the physical game comes with a really cool idea booklet that has not just ideas, but game concept and design pages from previous Mario Games

So if you love the idea of creating your own Super Mario levels, love the idea of playing levels created by other gamers whether they be good or bad, running through 100 course challenges to unlock items, and can spend hours detailing out by trial and error a level design, then this game will satisfy all those desires.

Mario Maker is a pretty great idea and fun to tinker around on.

They also had all kind of crazy ideas that aren't done in a normal game with funny sound effects and homage to the SNES Mario Paint

The level creation is addictive and unlike some I actually really appreciate the way the game slowly feeds you more gameplay elements over time instead of dumping everything on you at the beginning

What an innovative and fun way to expand the Mario brand.

The game itself is fun as you would expect, but there there is really no 'reason' to play the community made stuff unless you like uber hard stuff or auto-complete levels.

That's not to say you won't run into ridiculously hard levels.

The levels that Nintendo has added to the game feel more like a demo of what you can do in the Course Maker rather than a traditional, enjoyable Mario game level
