Instead of panicking, I took the device out of the durable case, followed the included instructions, and presto

The only issue I can even think of is a bit nitpicky and in practice isn't much of an actual problem.. the length of the jumper cables is understandably a bit short because otherwise it wouldn't all fit into that lovely case without concessions
