Case or no case, the magnet is strong enough to secure your phone while driving.

My main concern going in was whether or not the magnet would have enough force to hold my phone securely despite that it's pretty large (Galaxy) and has a fairly thick protective case (Otterbox).It works as described!

My plates was attached to a smooth plastic transparent case so perhaps that is the issue.

That said, I put them on my case, so if you lose your case, you lose the ability to use it.

Using the supplied metal plate when it is covered by a plastic protective case, my phone falls to the floor going over even minor bumps.

My case is a sturdy thick 2-layer case and it does not hold it as a whole, but it works great with only one of the layers

Hopefully your case isn't transparent, because the metal plates will look weird

The magnet insert requires a flexible case or your phone may not fit properly in its own case

I have a Galaxy S8 and my wife has an iPhone 6 both with protective back cases

Vent clip grips on vent without falling off and magnet is super strong to hold my apple 7 plus using a spigen clear case.

My case is semi-transparent, so it looks a little weird, but isn't an issue for an opaque case.

I also tried it with an Samsung phone (unsure of model) and a bulky case and it still worked well

so used a lighter case for my 7Plus and it works perfect.

No need to use the adhesive as it fit perfectly in place as I put the phone back in the protective case.

The case I have for my phone is very thick, but the magnets for this mount still work with it!

The a/c keeps the phone cool, but the drawback is that the a/c also interferes with the mic picking up voice commands, so I have to turn off the a/c momentarily to do a voice command

After about 30 days or so the strength of the magnet overcomes the adhesive of the metal plate and the phone simply falls off as you are driving along leaving the metal plate securely hugging the magnet

I have used the thin plate between my iPhone case and the phone itself (unstuck) as well as on the outside of the case (Permanently) and works great either way.

I would prefer not to see the magnet on the exterior of the case, as well as, I'd prefer not to have to remove my case from my phone.
