Tech support at Technivorm feel it's a non issue, a result of the machine being gravity driven rather than pump based and and in email response (they don't answer phone) informed me that they recommend removing unused water in reservoir when not using unit daily

But considering the speed and perfection of the brewing, this is a non-issue (an entire pot is brewed in 5 minutes).

This not only prevents the heater from boiling dry, but eliminates all the huffing, spitting, and puffing a cheap-o coffee maker dramatically goes through

No need for the bigger version (and I obsess about having enough)This maker elevates coffee, makes okay coffee good and good coffee great

Other wise i just paid a lot of money for hot water.
