I will be carrying it on all my backpacking trips as a useful emergency device, battery charger, and radio entertainment in the evening.
The phone simply says that the device is not compatible for charging.
This device is very useful for information, especially.
Some people were concerned that the power button gets pushed on inside a backpack, but I suspect you can simply put the device inside a separate container to protect the power button.
THIS DEVICE DOES CHARGE iPhones (probably other smartphones as well
This is a great addition for our home emergency survival kit.
This item is a great addition to anyone's emergency kit and fulfills multiple functions.
I also discovered that you can use the provided USB cable and plug it into a Kindle AC plug to charge the battery as well as with solar and hand turbine, that about makes it perfect
I think this will be a great addition to my emergency kit.
For the person who has plan-B pretty well covered, a radio like this is an excellent "plan-C" addition, without much weight or volume involved
I like it because it’s a well built radio, simple to use and reasonably priced.
The build is good and solid but I wouldn't want to drop it onto hard floor
The build is sturdy with the case made of thick red and black plastic, rubber for the flashlight button and port cover, and metal for the 10.25" radio antennae.

The AM/FM plus the weather band all work as advertised.
I also discovered that you can use the provided USB cable and plug it into a Kindle AC plug to charge the battery as well as with solar and hand turbine, that about makes it perfect
The crank charges it quickly, the light is bright and a phone charging cord is included.
It would have been nice to have see a multi-function flashlight -- Constant/Flashing/SOS -- as well as a larger display since bright light is needed to read the display without having to turn on the radio to illuminate the screen
The flashlight works fine and has a fairly bright light - enough to let you navigate in the dark
The flashlight isn't very bright and the blinking red light is even less bright
On the good side, the radio seemed to work well and the LED light was adequately bright.
The NOAA weather band, the AM and the FM all have good reception and good sound
The radio portion works well, the sound is good and what you’d expect from a hand size portable radio
I was able to receive a bunch of local radio stations without extending the antenna, the weather station was loud and present the second I turned the unit to "on", and the sound wasn't bad given the size of the speaker! The buttons are easy to figure out and large enough to be seen by most anyone
The speaker puts out good, clear sound (it's not a Bose, but it's very good, better than my Sony radio cube).
This is really a great little radio and has a surprisingly good sound
(remember, that would drain the computer battery though, if not plugged into a wall socket). The LED flashlight is definitely not going to light up a tent, for example.
Its alternative method of charging the battery work well and the radio reception is good
I also discovered that you can use the provided USB cable and plug it into a Kindle AC plug to charge the battery as well as with solar and hand turbine, that about makes it perfect
The unit should really be self-contained.5) (semi-)proprietary battery is not necessarily easy to obtain; and impossible after the zombie apocalypse.6)
Now, if you keep the FR1 in an emergency kit and only plan to use it in emergencies, chances are the battery will have drained unless you regularly keep it charged up
It does take some time/effort to charge it, but it works and it certainly beats not having any charging solutions during emergency/power outage situations
Accidents or fires can knock out power as well.
I have two other Eton emergency radios that we keep around our old house in case we lose power (happens a lot in winter) and they all work reasonably well
It will take a bit of cranking in order to get enough power on the radio to charge the phone.
You will need to perform countless revolutions, and even when the battery indicator shows that the unit is completely charged, you will have only enough power to charge the whole
Unfortunately, from my observations, this unit is designed and built very poorly to perform under normal conditions, let alone in a critical situation when you rely on it
Without a TV or radio, we had no idea of how bad the situation was - that so many buildings had collapsed.
I also discovered that you can use the provided USB cable and plug it into a Kindle AC plug to charge the battery as well as with solar and hand turbine, that about makes it perfect
In the event if a lengthy emergency situation without a power source, the radio has hand-crank and solar power options.

The flashlight is nothing to write home about, I think the flashlight apps on my Iphone are brighter but if you don’t have any other light source for some reason it will do in a pinch.wwA carry strap is included and I noticed in some other reviews here that some folks are having a hard time getting the strap threaded through.
However, since it's an emergency backup device, the timing can be extremely unfortunate to find out you got a dud.
Again, if you dont try to turn it like an animal, it wont give you a hard time
The alarm has activated by itself afew time and that's no biggie
