We would buy the imported bottled coffee from the local japanese grocery instead of buying the weak and overly-sweet ice coffee we get here
This makes great iced coffee in a reasonably simple and compact vessel.
Easy to clean up, easy to use, and it makes great iced coffee
It's simple, compact, easy to clean up and makes great iced coffee.
The only downside is you'll get spoiled by the quality, and when you buy a cold pressed coffee in a coffee shop, you'll get pissed off because they charge $4 for two inches of coffee with cold water and ice.
This Brewing System makes great coffee and that is the most important thing.
And make coffee just twice a month is the best thing ever
so my particular recipe is 1/3 c concentrate, 1/3 c water, 1/3 c fat free Half n Half, 1 tbsp syrup (vanilla or organic maple), ice.
Not gonna lie, I thought it was the weirdest thing until I decided I had to try it
When I used the 2-5-2 method, the thing would get clogged every single time, which is a real problem when you're dealing with a large quantity of coffee concentrate
As it needs to steep for 12-24 hours in the fridge, this gives it ample time to pick up all sorts of refrigerator smells which can taint the flavor of the coffee.
The flavor that cold brew provides is like no other coffee I’ve ever had
The concentrate is great for making mocha lattes; mocha cakes, icing, and other goodies; adding to roasts for a lovely dark flavor; just a quick cup of coffee.
I have never had a problem with the acidity of coffee, and when I tried cold-brewed, it was the bland taste that lacked all the complex flavor notes that drove me away
I would be willing to bet that all the people that wrote off cold brewing for "bad flavor" or weakness messed up the grind or didn't start with good coffee.
However the handle can not even begin to support the weight of the plastic top when filled with coffee and water.
It would be nice if the handle was sturdier or a permanent part of the container.
Yes, the handle is a bit flimsy, but I just use it for extra support as I pour with the main container
The handle is a bit flimsy, and the collars on the plastic brew pot where it sets atop the glass container could be better designed.
We needed a new carafe (one bad part of the system; needs a handle; easy to drop and break) so bought a whole new system so we could have a second brewing container.
so my particular recipe is 1/3 c concentrate, 1/3 c water, 1/3 c fat free Half n Half, 1 tbsp syrup (vanilla or organic maple), ice.
Wonderful for folks with stomach problems, since it removes much of the acid in your coffee.
I can now have coffee and no stomach problems (although I don't drink a lot of coffee).
I emailed the manufacturer, and they said the plastic is not made with BPA, and that is a great plus!I would recommend this to anyone, and have purchased this for many, as well as got additional decanters for myself!
I have a lot of stomach problems so drinking brewed coffee or espresso is a lot like playing Russian roulette
If you like the resulting coffee, get the Toddy System; if not, you've only wasted a pound of coffee.
They're noisy, messy and take forever to grind up 3 pounds of coffee beans.
Not to mention, a pound of coffee every two weeks is a heck of a lot cheaper than using those pods every day
I have been making iced coffee off and on for a few years now by grinding up a pound of beans and mixing it up with water in a 1 gallon cambro container, letting it sit out for about 24 hours, then straining it with coffee filters in a wire mesh strainer.
But I like using the pound better, as you make coffee less often

As important as those fresh roasted beans are to your cup of coffee, it's what you do with them that counts the most
In 1964, as a chemical engineering graduate of Cornell, Todd Simpson developed and patented a cold brew system that, using regular coffee beans, creates a superior-tasting cup of steaming HOT coffee
And, with 67% LESS ACID than coffee made by conventional hot brew methods, it's easier on sensitive stomachs
The Toddy coffee maker extracts the coffee bean's true delicious flavor and eliminates much of the acidity, producing a bold, super-smooth coffee that can be served one cup at a time
The Toddy brewer is also ideal for making tea - served hot or over ice
