I plugged in the TP-Link AC1750, followed the setup instructions with were very straightforward (note: I do have a tech background, though this still didn't seem complicated at all), and now we are able to get solid WiFi inculding smart TV streaming in the bedroom.

The closest to a "fix" that I've found is to setup your router to use static WiFi channels for 2.4 and 5.0 instead of letting it choose.

IThe TP-Link AC1200 gave my WIFI the boost that was needed to reach my 2nd floor

After initial setup AC1200 seems to work better but then it started to lose signal in a place where it was getting green signal first and wifi was actually worse with it in place than without it
