It has plenty of features and the menu is easy to navigate - You can change the colors of the display or even have the display off until there is an alert - If you want GPS, spend the extra $100 and get the R3, but I personally didn't need the extra features
The menu is easy to navigate, settings are easy to customize to your personal needs
Menu is easy to access and navigate, but choosing the right options can be a challenge

The unit has been flawless in detecting KA band speed traps and patrol cars from a very long distance
All of the critical reviews for this product are either quality issues (defective cords, units) or people who do not know anything about detectors and how they work.
I did a ton of research before my purchase and the new Uniden R1/R3 is one of the best units out there for $3-400 range
, the Escort Redline was the best unit as far as sensitivity, reaction time
all cause older units to freak the hell out and provide plenty of false K-Band alerts
Also the range is limited compared to my first unit
The large mount supplied with the R1 is pretty much worthless if you are mounting it on anything other than a truck window with very little angle due to the fact that there is not enough adjustment range to accommodate a windshield with a steep angle
If someone who previously owned a crappy detector purchased this, they are of course going to love the range
Range in City mode was no better than my old Passport during commute
The range on this thing is awesome, and it has yet to miss a police trap
Refer to his videos!I do have one area on my way to work that consistently gets false Ka band alerts and I wish that I had gotten the R3 for that -- however, it's not worth $100 in my mind.
It found all the police cars and all the annoying K band speed signs in and around construction
Since there is very little K-band used by police in my state, I could probably safely disable that band altogether
This R1 replaced an Escort X50, which served me well but became increasingly prone to false K-band alerts on the highway
The only way to reduce falses is by reducing sensitivity or limit the sensed "bands" which you can do either manually with this detector.
