That said, for the price it is an unbelievable value
While it's anyone's guess how long the SATA to USB controller will work on these, I would much rather have it to deal with than an integrated one on a very difficult-to-open WD Passport or similar
Overall, a great value if you have an extra 2.5" drive laying around.
Excellent value for the money, easy way to recycle an old laptop hard drive
I have recovered many laptop hard drives for resale and this enclosure for the price is an outstanding value.
2.0 External Hard Drive EnclosureThis enclosure worked as advertised.
The product never worked as advertised
I had some difficulty getting the hard drive in but other wise works as advertised.
I was happy to see this HDD enclosure works as well as advertised
While it's anyone's guess how long the SATA to USB controller will work on these, I would much rather have it to deal with than an integrated one on a very difficult-to-open WD Passport or similar
It worked perfectly as I first put the new drive in this enclosure in order to clone the old drive prior to removing it
i ordered this product for my macbook pro's old driveri like this product cheap and good :)thank u
This USB hard drive case is made from well built aluminum and worked perfect out of the box with my old SATA drive that I removed from my MacBook Pro.
I was very pleased buy this product, how easy it was to use and how well built it is,I would very much recommend this for anyone who's computer/laptop that crashed and wants to save there data, this is a must have,
Compared to those casings I have purchased in my country, this product's design is sturdy and of good-built
Pros:-Traveling pouch so it the aluminum doesn't get scratched during travel-Consistent transfer speeds (no benchmarks done, but for backing up documents, I don't see why a benchmark is really needed)-A thick USB cable (a plus for me since I have a cat that likes to chew on cables)-Enclosure is closed using screws (I prefer this than the tool-less)-Activity LEDCons:-The included screwdriver is really tiny-Why isn't this device on the first page when you search 2.5 enclosure, I had to actually google makers of 2.5 enclosures and browse the whole catalog of Vantec devices from their siteMy final words are that this is my 3rd Vantec device and they undoubted have earned my trust when it comes to peripheral and computer accessories, their solutions have been hassle free every time and its the most basic thing that I can expect from these types of manufacturers because waiting for things to arrive to only find out that they don't work is a pain and absolute waste of time.
Other than that, this thing is wonderful, and well worth the very low price.
Good thing because I was having a hard time looking for
..... the most important thing..... it works just fine with the disk drive I placed in the enclosure
The only thing I don't care for is the strong rubber smell the cable gives off
Great quality item that I use to access data on my old hard drive.
Why doesn't AMAZON.COM take these inferior items off their
It isn't the sellers fault it just happens that sometimes you get bad items.
the return "partial refund" policy leaves me a bit perplexed ... if the item is defective, a full refund should be available and has a tone that its not going to be worth my while to return it
This item worked fine with an old laptop hard drive and windows 7.
I bought this product one week ago but found that its design is horrible and was not fully tested
Nice metal body, design is much better than other products
Installation GuideThe design of the enclosure is also nice and compact
Have worked as a computer tech for 11 years and this has a very poor design.
Unlike some poorly-designed adapter, this adapter itself doesn't burn much power from the computer USB port, which means the hard drive itself can get most of the power from the computer USB port, sufficient for it to work properly even without the complementary USB plug specifically for power supply plugged.2
I had an external enclosure from another company fail and mislead me into believing the drive had failed, but this one is great: runs cool, fast interface, works.
After some time putting it together the hard drive works fine
Looks nice, works with Macbook Pro Mountain Lion OSX.I had to force the end pretty hard to fit, and only one of the split usb end worked with my Mac (the other must be for an auxilary drive), but it looks good and works for my little 500 gb hybrid hard drive
I had some difficulty getting the hard drive in but other wise works as advertised.
Less than $10 lets my old laptop's internal Hard Drive become my new laptop's external Hard Drive - works flawlessly.
The drive went in and needed an extra "hold" against the foam while putting in the tiny enclosure screws, so it's in there good n' tight
It worked perfectly as I first put the new drive in this enclosure in order to clone the old drive prior to removing it

It is an external case for a 2.5" hard drive that I expect will last until I really need it, then the interface connector will probably lose connectivity to the drive just like every other one I've bought

I have had no problems using a single USB to microUSB cable (2M, good quality) with the unit rather than the dual USB to microUSB cable supplied with it
I recommend connecting both as it gives enough current to power the hard drive properly
My MacBook Pro died and I didn't want to waste the HD, so I got
USB 3.0 speeds appeared to work as she copied about 40 gigabytes of photos and music to her new laptop.
I totally recommend it as in market its twice the price what you get here on amazon.
I did see how it would fit without the metal casing and saw that it would be a bit too loose for my liking, so I made it work with the metal casing on
No problems, but if you had a hard drive you really liked or one that you bought, I said you can spend your money on something a bit more reliable looking.
As other mentioned there is not much support for the disk and also I found the micro usb plug a bit loose (hence it's easy to get disconnected when relocating the drive across your desk for example)
Certainly not an issue if you're leaving the drive on your desktop or stowing it loose in your laptop bag, but probably a bit of a challenge if you're adamant about getting only ultra-small stuff you can jam in your pants pocket
:D You can't throw it up against the wall, or anything, because the harddrive is a bit loose inside the case, but then, you would never throw electronics
Will recommend this to anyone with a compatible Hard Disk
Like if using 12.5mm hard disk, pay attention to the orientation when sliding it back to the enclosure after placing the screws to hold to the internal USB3 adapter
Will recommend this to anyone with a compatible Hard Disk
I carefully removed the hard disk from the bad Laptop and inserted it into the Hard drive Enclosure
It's built of durable aluminum, but don't expect this to protect your hard disk from drops
My laptop that was purchased about 5 years ago decided not to reboot and had a dark screen.
Had a friend whose kid knocked his laptop off the table and shattered the screen, with this we were able to save his pictures and afterward he's been using it for a portable backup drive, easy to install, it just works.
The drive went in and needed an extra "hold" against the foam while putting in the tiny enclosure screws, so it's in there good n' tight
I bought this enclosure so I could get some files off of my laptop's hard drive because the screen is busted and I can no longer use it.
My old laptop crashed over a year ago...the final blue screen of death
The worst part, though, was tonight when I gave this another try on a different laptop and it destroyed an entire backup partition on the drive
I just kept on tried couple of times dissembling, reassembling, checking if I did it right, no loose connections etc., but it didn't work
A bit fragile, I did break one trying to push the SATA connector into the hard drive, but I think that was my fault.
