These seem to have an effective range of about 1/4 mile in a heavy industrial environment with lots of metal and machinery to go around.
They work great clear sound great range battery last long time.

I first bought a set of really nice GMRS/FRS radios just to use with these intercoms
So the same type of ACTUAL (not marketing) range you would expect to get from a nice GMRS/FRS or commercial grade professional radios
It can all be programmed into a GMRS radio easy enough (for me anyway), but the display is still not very intuitive (for my wife and kids at least) as Ch-1, Ch-2 Ch-3
My nice GMRS radios are okay.. but are just a click-in plastic to plastic mount
But after using each over the past week or so.. I had to go out back to work on my kid's tree house today.. and instead of grabbing my nice GMRS radios (to talk to people in the house), I just now realized I actually took one of these little units with me

Good reception,very clear and work perfect for our needs.
If you don't have a repeater, this little gem has a detachable antenna compatible with many ham antennas that share the same frequency range, (available on Amazon) and it has good signal and reception right out of the box

but if you're actually trying to get a high quality, portable unit that is dead simple and works beautifully with the newer digital Samcom home intercoms.. these little radios are great
The first thing that stands out with these units is the solid build quality
Yes, you can get better quality radios, but you will spend a lot more money to get them

The only things these radios lacked (why I gave a 4 star instead of 5) might be a micro-USB charge jack (use my phone/tablet USB chargers).. and maybe a "lock" button to lock out channel and menu config changes
You won't see this even on the nicer quality GMRS radios
