Almost didn't buy it but was told by a really good player that is was the best distortion he's ever used

One of the best, if not the best, distortion pedals I have used

Overall it's the best sounding distortion pedal I've ever

I tried a Wampler Sovereign, and it was certainly a good distortion pedal, but not necessarily "$100 better" than anything else I owned (returned) it.

It's an excellent distortion pedal on smaller or larger rigs alike.

Your amp or system will probably like either the Modern or Vintage setting but not both.

The pinnacle is literally an amp in a box, a really great sounding tube amp

Crank it up all the way and it sounds like your amp is melting - in a good way

And i don’t feel like it sounds 80’s or VH-ish - it just sounds like me turning all the controls on a rich and delicious amp to 11.Gainy while having a “lush” and vocal quality to it

The Wampler Pinnacle is moderate-to-high gain distortion pedal that I lusted after for a long period of time, and despite the relatively prohibitive price tag (at least for a non-professional musician), owning one makes me wonder why I didn't just buy it sooner.

Overall, the wampler pinnacle is a well thought out and well built pedal that delivers.

But after buying a Black '65 (love it) and getting a chance to try out the Euphoria (likely my next Wampler), I gained a new-found appreciation for Wampler as a company, and gave the Pinnacle a second look.

Wampler is an amazing company with unbelievable customer service.

Now I’ve got a tumnus deluxe for cleaner sounds, a euphoria for light overdrive, a plexi drive deluxe for crunch and boosted leads, and this bad boy when i want to bring the house down

(I think the double switch is more useful in the new Plexi Drive Deluxe, where the "Boost" switch is actually a standalone tubescreamer that can be engaged even with the rest of the pedal in bypass).I won't spend too much time trying to describe the sound of the Pinnacle - if you're familiar with Van Halen's tone from different eras, there's a good chance you find that somewhere in the Pinnacle.

I find that it provides a great tone at a good bedroom level volume through the Mini Z and sends my Cornell Plexi 7 into an awesome deep, dark British bliss

Having the boost on the pedal allows me to just use this one pedal on by board for rhythm and lead OD sounds, where before, I'd use a second "tube screamer" type pedal afterward to boost mids and volume for leads

It is sufficiently quite and probably quieter than many distortion pedals because it is a high quality item, but some noise is there and the loudness depends on the volume level you prefer

Also, it is just so much more handy having the boost on a footswitch for lead boosts

Brian Wampler seems to be very proud of the gain boost feature on his pedals so there has to be something to it that I can't figure out

This pedal goes from mild to wild, and the boost can be used as a clean boost independantly of the overdrive itself.

While I prefer the warm mids of the Vintage mode, the Modern mode will give you a brighter edge suitable for 80's thrash metal through modern rock

I use it with my high Marshall and even though I love my Marshall's gain when I want that Mesa sound I stomp on this bad

It sounds much better than anything my Marshall amp can do on its own in any channel, clean or high gain.

It's okay, because I get enough gain and dirt without using the boost switch

Nice, fat, lead tone on the high strings that doesn't collapse when you go above the twelfth fret

The Catapulp has a lot of play when it comes down to altering the color of the amp or adding enhancement to an already good tone

Adjusting the volume on the guitar cleans up the tone quite well and the knobs on this pedal provide a great deal of adjustment in shaping the tone
