The sound quality is quite good for this price range & the build quality is also good - except for the remote
Good quality great sounding stereo amplifier for music.
The build quality is amazing and SACD's sound great on my system.
In the time I have owned this player after upgrading from the CD-S700, It has never failed to amaze me with its revealing and natural sound, deep sound stage and unparalleled build quality
Other than those two shortcomings, it is a fine unit and the sound quality was excellent, although I do not have audiophile speakers to judge it at that level.
If you are really looking for a nice sounding well built CD player you cant go wrong with either player
The Yamaha Super Audio CD player CD-S1000 is an elegantly styled, solid, well built player which weighs in at an impressive 31 pounds
This is a very well built and nice sounding CD player but it has a few limitations that the Onkyo C 7030 that I ended up keeping does not have
The Onkyo with it's Woflson DACs and high end transformer is a great sounding and well built player

Thanks Yamaha for making fantastic audio products that almost anyone can afford and thanks Amazon for making every purchase smooth and worry free.
I love Yamaha products and own a 7.2 Yamaha receiver and a Yamaha Blue Ray player that's still going strong 4 years later
I checked it out with Jazz (Al DiMeola, Benny Goodman), R&B(Temptation, James Brown), Rock(Nickleback, Pat Benatar, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons), Blues (Eric Clapton, BB King, Joe Bonamassa, Willie Dixon), and Country( Johnny Cash, Martina McBride,) etc
The dynamic range was clearly greater than what I had become accustomed to and passages which I had grown to accept as being slightly distorted (attributable I had thought to the CD recording itself) sounded gratifyingly clean and clear

I thought that Yamaha sounded fine, but a little to "bright", with upper mid-range a little too prominent for my taste, and a certain un-welcome shrillness in the louder passages

I also love that, like my amplifier, the 300 has a Pure Direct button that allows you to improve audio quality by turning off the front display and turning off the digital output
The readout is crisp, the buttons on the face are solid with a good tactile feel, and the whole unit is built like a brick
Depressing the display button again gets you even less interesting information: how many minutes have elapsed since start of play
Nice Pure Direct button, which shuts off the display and digital circuitry
That said, I would order both and decide for yourself after a good A/B comparison

The added feature of directly connecting your phone to the unit is scary its so clear, forget streaming this is the way to go

This ROCKS!Nice features on the unit include dimmer and counter options, programmability, optical output, and a USB input on the front
In addition, one can hook up an iPod or just a usb stick containing mp3s or WMA files to this device, which is a very useful feature.

I did many A/B comparisons between this Yamaha and the Onkyo as I thought the Onkyo was just too cheap to be any good
Was playing them either thru a Pioneer multi-CD player (for my house parties) or Samsung CD/DVD player, piped thru pair of pretty decent Klipsh speakers with a pretty good Onkyo amp
I was almost swayed into buying a less expensive Onkyo but, remembering my mom's penchant for buying electronics to matchy-match, I decided at the last possible moment to go with the Yamaha CD-S300BL instead
cost is just too high when the Onkyo 7030 is available for almost 50% the cost
This Yamaha is a very good soundingplayer but at 7.7 LBs it's not built as well as the Onkyo with it's very high end power transformer
If you start checking the weight of CD only players you will see how the more heavy units cost a heck of a lot more
The sound quality this feeds to the amp rivals units at twice its cost.
If you do not want to spend the money for a higher-end audiophile player, I recommend the Yamaha unit without hesitation for its superior sound and ability to play home-made CDs.
after about a year with very little use, the unit fails to read any cd.
It has truly earned the "Made for iPod" logo on the box, not just some half-baked BS "kinda works for iPod", this unit works extremely well with our modern streaming solutions, at least in my
