The size is about right for these small cameras and most of the time simply having a larger recorder is just too much to pack around just to have the option of XLR ports.

Great unit, same quality (as far as I can tell via research) as the new model so a great value!

A note of caution: this unit is VERY sensitive if you push up the recording volume, and it will even pick up the sound of your skin scraping against its plastic shell

These little units are a life saver, using in conjunction with RØDE smartlav as a backup for wireless mic

While I had a techie's advice in purchasing this recorder, and can't give you a techie review, I can say that this little unit has been reliable and invaluable in recording our small but mighty choir.

Product has worked really well for me, easy to use interface and can easily switch between many quality and format settings

I even use this to record podcast and the sound is AMAZING!

For recording voice, a separate mic added to it takes care of unwanted sounds holding it.

Your not going to just drop this in a pocket and get good sound

The one he was using was a new H4 series, more than I needed, but the Zoom H1 recorder offered just what I wanted: quality stereo microphones with adjustable recording levels, stereo inputs for other microphones, a jack for listening, good battery life, micro-SD memory slot, and a 1/4-20 mount for a tripod or other stand

I use it for my professional shoots, as well as recording my thoughts and ideas while driving hours to and from remote clients

I'm hoping that the next firmware addresses this battery drain issue.

The only problem I have with this is the battery drain.

I noticed some reviewers had problems with the battery draining quickly, even when switched off

If you leave your alkaline batteries in the device, powered off, expect to find your battery drained.
