It appears to have the same 8 pole direct drive system as the popular AT-LP120USB DJ table, but without all the DJ features like pitch, strobe, reverse and cue light.
My old Denon DP33F - Quartz stabilized direct drive - well the WOW went away after the crystals warmed up over 10
If you care about audio quality then this is the best direct drive unit you can find period
The direct drive is buttery smooth, quiet and accurate.

The lp5 looks fantastic and built to last, the direct drive motor delivered consistent speeds and does not interfere with the audio
But it's a solid start - there is a feel of quality: the motor is quiet (albeit low torque), the speed is steady (after a few days break-in), the arm seems of good quality, the anti-skating works - unlike other AT models

With a upgrade path to still improve the audio quality this is a very good buy
Things started out fine, but as soon as the music came up in volume, a very loud 60 Hz hum took over.

Good quality lower to mid level turntable for a budget price.
It could be that the AT-95Ex is a terrible cartridge, but I doubt it.
does't get the good reviews like for Rega or Project turntables, but this is excellent and dead quiet plus the included cartridge is pretty good.

The AT-95E that the AT95Ex is based on is one of the best reviewed cartridges on NeedleDoctor.com, a high-end turntable web store
Overall, what I would have really liked would have been the same TT stripped down of all these unnecessary and imperfect features but with a better cartridge for the price.
Eventually I'll switch to an external pre-amp, but I feel that the internal amp sounds very good and should be adequate for most people that don't have an external or one in their receiver
Needs a better cartridge and a good external pre-amp

As for the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, look for "HiViNyws" on Youtube for a great and thorough comparison between the Project and Rega, ultimately concluding that the Rega sounds better than the Pro-Ject.
Now I could have put the NAD phono preamp on the audio technica to get a better comparison but another problem arose

slipmat- Higher quality AT95EX Dual Moving Magnet stereo cartridge unique to the LP5- J shaped tone arm only available on the LP5- Upgraded feet- Heavier vibration

This is a good looking, solid turntable that needs some upgrades to live up to the 'audiophile' status that AT claims
Outside of this one minor issue that is easily corrected with an external phono pre-amp, the turntable is great
Do not waste your money on any of the $1000.00 plus turntable , this turntable is built with durability and Japanese quality control can beseen in sound deliverance, knob movement, and the tone arm is the same used on the high end Turntables.

I think this is a great turntable and the price seems appropriate for what you get.
