If you can find a used one at a good price I'd highly recommend this camera

The price was attractive.

The price for a good used one at the time of this review is well under $300, and now that I have taken the plunge I cannot tell you how happy I am with the new camera

It is getting me into digital photography for a very reasonable price

MPs were the same, lenses were the same, the photographer (me) was the same, but the price was better

A photographer friend of mine who works for a local paper said, in looking at the lens, that they make cheap versions and slap the Nikon name on them, to offer attractive pricing on their pacakged sets.

So, I found a factory demo from CAMETA Camera for a good price.

Just a serious piece of equipment that now is available at a great price

Now it's a great option for those who are looking for an entry level camera for a great price

Cons: price (still near impossible to find one of these for a steal), weight (it feels solid and well constructed, but you pay for that with the weight

In summary, if you are looking to get into a good DSLR, don't think that you HAVE to buy the newest thing; if you find an older camera at a good price, give it a shot.

Also, the D80 is at a GREAT price point right now, being 'upgraded' to the D90, but seriously, most amateur photographers will not ever know they're missing a paltry 2 megapixels
